Obituary published on Legacy.com by Tasker Funeral Home - Dover on Dec. 15, 2025.
On December 14, 2025, Catherine Constance went on to meet 'her little Greek god' in Never Never Land.
The 96- year-old and longtime Dover resident was born on May 15, 1929 to Alphonse 'Pete' Lefebvre and Mary Katherine 'Katie' Tarmey. Remarkably, Catherine was a woman known by many names: Sis, Cathy, Kay, Ekaterini, Honeydip, Peanut, Ma, Gram, Nana, YiaYia, and more recently CC or KC. She had a seemingly endless and eclectic array of talents and hobbies stemming from childhood, including becoming an expert hand roller of her father's cigarettes as well as being the family hairdresser, cook, and caretaker who not only helped raise her younger siblings, but at an early age moved in with her Irish grandmother and uncles to help keep them in line-which you can only imagine was the toughest of jobs.
Taught by her father and French grandparents, Catherine was a master seamstress, whose mother instilled in her the appreciation and value of a handwritten letter which she shared with those near and far. She was a seasoned storyteller, and the thriftiest of shoppers who was lost for quite a while after The Fashion Barn closed. Her title of 'world traveller' was put on hold in order to raise four energetic, athletic boys and spend her workdays at Somersworth GE, after which she and Pedro would visit family and friends in Europe, the Caribbean, Australia, and from coast to coast in the US. However, over the years and maybe most importantly, Catherine had an unspoken way of comforting people who were ready to make their transition as she bore witness to the last moments of countless family and friends-it was a rare calling in life that she accepted wholeheartedly.
With all that being said, Catherine rarely had an opinion that she didn't share and according to her husband of 67 years, her true favorite pastimes were weekend Greek dances and "getting up to no good". If you really knew her-that Cheshire grin, the glint in her eye, and her gravelly laugh just popped into your head as you read that last line. She also outlived her beloved Harvey's Bakery that closed earlier this year, her passing as the last surviving original member of 'the Golden Girls' brings about the end of an era in Downtown Dover.
Catherine leaves behind her brother Louis Lefebvre of Somersworth. As well as her four sons; Alexander and wife Rebecca of
Palm Bay, FL; Patrick of
Mesa, AZ; Robert and wife Pam of Somersworth; Richard and wife Valerie of Dover. 'Gram/Nana' leaves her five grandchildren; Alex (Melissa) Constantopoulos, Bree Constance, Wendi (Doug) Aultman, Damion (Elizabeth) Constantopoulos, and Stacy (Matt) Couture. Our honorary Greek 'YiaYia' also says goodbye to ten great-grandchildren; Taylor, Andrew, Julia, Olivia, Jillian, Tyler, Shamus, Ava, Rogan & Norah. Then, little Ivy came along in 2024 and made Catherine '2x great', they were overjoyed to get to meet each other late last year. It was also true that she cherished each and every one of her many nieces and nephews, however there was only one considered to be her '5th son'-Jim Cole, with his wife Doreen, and their family. We also cannot forget to mention her two very special granddogs, Bruno and Ginger, who comforted her greatly whenever they were together.
Catherine was predeceased by her husband, Pedro 'Pat' Constance, along with her parents and siblings; Alphonse, Bob, Rita, Dolly, Shirley, Bill, Charlie, Raymond, Roland, and George. Also a granddaughter Maggie, and grandson (in-law) Brian.
