Catherine "Cathie" Marie Diltz Deiss passed away peacefully on October 9, 2025, in Hinsdale, Illinois. She was the beloved wife of Brian Deiss, with whom she shared 31 wonderful years of marriage.
Cathie was raised in Wilmette, IL, the daughter of the late Betsy and Gordon Diltz. She was a devoted wife, loving mother to Molly (Patrick) Winter, Matthew Deiss, and the late Maggie Deiss, and a proud grandmother to Emily Winter. Cathie was a cherished sister to Tom (Cathy) Diltz, Sally (John) Cantwell, Carol (John) Schmidt, Sue (Brian) Keenan, and the late Julie (Josh) Cohen. She was a beloved aunt and great-aunt to many. She is preceded in death by her daughter Maggie, her sister Julie, and her parents.
Cathie lived a life rooted in love, service, and community. A longtime parishioner of Notre Dame Church, she was actively involved in the food pantry and religious education programs. She also volunteered with the People's Resource Center. Known for her warmth and compassion, she gave generously of her time and heart to anyone in need.
She found joy in the simple pleasures of life-puzzles, reading, spirited games of euchre with family and friends, and watching quirky movies. Her competitive spirit, quick wit, and deep empathy made her a joy to be around and a steadfast presence to those lucky enough to know her.
Cathie earned her undergraduate degree from Loyola University Chicago and went on to complete her master's degree at National Louis University. She devoted her career to primary education, working as both a classroom teacher and a reading interventionist, helping countless students grow and thrive.
A celebration of Cathie's life will be held on Monday, October 13, 2025, from 9:30am until time of Funeral Mass at 11:30am at Notre Dame Church, 64 Norfolk Ave, Clarendon Hills.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Maggie Deiss Nursing Scholarship through the Sinclair School of Nursing at the University of Missouri. This scholarship honors Cathie's late daughter by supporting pediatric nursing students who demonstrate excellence of character and a commitment to serving others. Cathie's legacy of love, education, and service will live on in all the lives she touched.
