CATHERINE GILDEA Obituary

GILDEA, Catherine T. Age 71, passed away peacefully, at her home in Mashpee, on June 14, 2025. She was the beloved wife of Michael H. Stacy, with whom she shared 19 happy and fulfilling years of marriage. Catherine was born on March 14, 1954, in Newport, Rhode Island, to the late William Gildea and Catherine (Nickerson) Gildea. She grew up spending her summers in Popponesset, surrounded by her nine siblings. Those early days by the beach left a lasting impression on her, and she often shared how lucky she felt to be back on the Cape with her siblings. She went on to earn her bachelor's degree from Westfield State University, where she discovered her love of horticulture. Catherine had a true green thumb and a deep appreciation for nature's beauty. She was also a lifelong reader, known for her sharp intelligence, quick wit, and a sense of humor that made her unforgettable. There was no fooling Catherine: she always saw right through things, often with a clever remark to follow. Over the years, Catherine wore many hats. She worked in restaurants, thrived as an executive recruiter in the Washington, D.C. area and later, launched her own business, Cape Cod Concierge, where she showcased her eye for style and design. She also played a key role in launching the Brockton Rox baseball team as their manager of operations, just one of many examples of her ability to lead, organize, and make things happen. The role she cherished most was being a mother. Catherine raised her three children selflessly, a testament to her strength, determination, and deep love. She approached motherhood with a quiet resilience, giving her children stability, encouragement, and unconditional support. She was a guiding light to her family and a steady source of love and wisdom. Catherine was a devoted wife, a proud mother and grandmother, a loyal sister, and a treasured friend. Her warmth, humor, and generosity touched everyone lucky enough to know her, and her presence will be deeply missed. She is survived by her husband, Michael Stacy, of Mashpee, MA; her children, John Wadsworth, of Lewisburg, WV, and Mary Wadsworth and her fiancé, Jeff Ward, of Magalia, CA; and her beloved grandchildren, Meryl Hue, Olive Mae, Mackenzie Rose, and John Michael. Catherine is also survived by her siblings, Mary Butler of Mashpee, Edward Gildea and his wife, Martha Bayliss, of Mashpee, Peggy Bone and her husband, Thomas, of Mashpee, William Gildea of Mashpee, Sean Gildea and his wife, Philomena, of Manchester-by-the-Sea, MA, Fain Gildea of Dartmouth, MA, Timothy Gildea and his wife, Anne Marie, of Norwell, MA, Tara Gildea and her husband, Peter Frick, of Mashpee, and Mark Gildea and his wife, Charlotte, of Mashpee. She also leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter, Tara Wadsworth; her brother-in-law, Roland Butler; and her sister-in-law, Melinda Gildea. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, followed by a Funeral Service at 12:00 PM, at Chapman Funerals and Cremations, 74 Algonquin Avenue (Route 151), MASHPEE, MA.
