Catherine (Gottfried) Halverson, 91, passed on August 21, 2023 at Logan Healthcare in Conrad.
Catherine was born on March 6, 1932 on the family farm on the West Butte of the Sweetgrass Hills. She was the 6th of 11 children born to Adam and Elizabeth "Olga" Gottfried. She played the French horn for Sunburst High School and graduated in 1950.
Catherine married Wallace Halverson on November 30, 1951. Together they raised their 5 children on their farm east of Valier. In addition to helping Wally with farming, she was active with the Lone Tree Extension Club. She was a 4-H leader, taught ceramics, and enjoyed many hobbies including quilting, beading, photography, and making rosaries. She was a catechism teacher at the Sacred Heart Church in the Belgian community. Catherine enjoyed spending time at the Gottfried family cabin at Essex, MT.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wallace, in 1999; brother, Joe Gottfried, Lawrence Gottfried, and Jim Gottfried; and sisters, Cecelia Neidhardt, Marian Turner, and Eileen Wartchow.
Survivors include brothers, Fritz (Tootie) Gottfried and Ed (LeAnn) Gottfried; sisters, Evelyn Woffer and Adeline Boltz; her children, Delorous (Butch) Anderson of Helena, Dawn (Jonathan) Sprinkle of Havre, Dan Halverson of Lakeside, MT, Ann (Kevin) Peterson of Depoe Bay, OR, and John Halverson of Billings; grandchildren, Audrey (Nicholas) Turner, Colson, Livia, and Jeff Sprinkle, Carona (Kadee) Sprinkle, Kamron Anderson, and Marcus Halverson.
Viewing will be held at Asper/Pondera Funeral Home Sunday, August 27, starting at 4:30pm followed by Rosary and Vigil services at 5:30pm. Funeral mass will be Monday, August 28, at 10:00am at St. Michaels Catholic Church. A reception at the church will follow the burial in Mt Olivet Cemetery.
