Catherine was the oldest of three girls born on October 7, 1946, in Ethelsville, Alabama, to President and Anna Ruth Dunnums. She later made her home in Chicago, where she raised her three children and built a life centered on family, hard work, and lasting friendships. She worked as a sales manager at Chernin’s Shoes and later in apartment management, where her outgoing personality and strong spirit left a lasting impression on everyone she met.
Twenty-five years ago, Cathy moved to Sheboygan, Wisconsin—a decision that brought her great joy and many treasured moments with family and newfound friends.
Cathy loved horses, spending time with friends, casino outings, and cruising around town looking “jazzy” on her scooter. She especially cherished being “Granny” to her grandchildren, who were the light of her life. Catherine also shared an unbreakable bond with her sisters, Dora and Ruth, and spent countless hours on the phone with them each day. The three of them were affectionately referred to as “The Golden Girls.” Her warmth, laughter, and lively conversations will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her daughter, Angelina Chaney; her son and daughter-in-law, Leroy and Lori Hamilton; her grandchildren, Tajane (Zach) Byers, Logan (Amaris Perryman) Hamilton, and Layton Hamilton; her sisters, Dora (Harold) and Ruth; her niece, Lana, and nephew, John, and their children; many cousins; and her former husband, Lloyd.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved son, Lloyd Rodney.
A memorial service will be held at Ballhorn Chapels Funeral & Cremation Care Center, 1201 N. 8th St., Sheboygan, on March 21, 2026, at 3:30 p.m., with visitation from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service. The service will also be available via live-stream recording on the funeral home’s website.
Catherine’s love for her family and her vibrant spirit will live on in all who knew her.
Her family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Aurora and The Sheboygan Senior Community for their wonderful care and compassion.
