Catherine Harris Obituary

Published by Terry Funeral Home, Inc. - Philadelphia on Feb. 22, 2017.
CATHERINE ELEANOR HARRIS, or Mom Mom as she was affectionately known to family and friends, was born February 15, 1913 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to the late Charles and Bessie Bracy. She was the oldest of seven children. On May 10, 1944 she was united in marriage to Rufus R. Harris. From this union Catherine gained seven children from Rufus's previous marriage to the late Ida Belle Harris. Catherine loved and raised these children as her own and developed a special relationship with each and every one of them: Ruth, Eleanor, Edna, Rufus Jr., Paul, Nelson and Bernard. Catherine was a dedicated and hard worker and an extremely talented seamstress who loved to sew, knit and crochet. She was employed by the Government, responsible for making uniforms for the American Servicemen. After 25 years of working as a seamstress at the Quarter Master, Catherine retired. Catherine and Rufus lived in West Philadelphia on the 6200 block of Osage Avenue. While living there they helped make the community into a family environment. They were involved in many social and community activities. After both retiring, Catherine and Rufus dug up their roots in Philadelphia and relocated their family to McKee City, New Jersey where they made their mark. They developed many more friendships and made sure the family stayed close by organizing holidays, birthdays, dinners and cookouts at their home. Catherine cared for and love Rufus until his death on July 3, 1985. Catherine was a kindhearted, caring and loving woman who devoted her life to family and friends. Whether if it was giving advice about love and relationships or sharing encouraging words, she was always there when you needed her. Catherine's love and good-nature will truly be missed. Catherine departed this life on February 22, 2017 at the age of 104. Catherine leaves to cherish her memory: her last remaining child Bernard Harris Sr. and wife Trudie Harris, Care takers: granddaughter Donya Renee Corey and husband Armon Corey, grandson Bernard Harris Jr. and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Bessie Bracy; husband, Rufus Harris Sr., children; Edna, Ruth, Eleanor, Rufus Jr., Nelson and Paul.

Ms. Harris lived up the street from my mom Pat Krumaker who would visit and bring Ms Harris home made soup and other food. Ms. Harris was such a sweet woman. God bless her and her family.

Ms. Catherine, it's been an honor and privilege to have known you for this past year and a half. A piece of history is sewn shut, lol (your time as a quartermaster). Thank you for sharing bits of history with me, I will cherish them. May God bless you and keep you as you soar with the angels.
To the family I send my condolences and prayers. God bless you and give you the strength needed in your time of grief.
I love you, Ms. Catherine and will miss you.
In sorrow, Alease (activities)

Aunt Toots :

As you have joined your parents, siblings and other relatives, spouse and friends, you have now entered the waters of eternel love and joy.

Thank you for being Robert, Nancy and Raymond Bracy's Aunt as you were one of their father's (Samuel Bracy) sister. They fondly relish the many pictures you showed them on the trips to your New Jersey home with their Dad and even since then.

I light this candle for my remebrance of you.
