Catherine "Marie" Horton, 79, passed away August 31, 2025. Marie was born in Norfolk Virginia to the late Arnold Frederick Eichhorn and Catherine Vaeth Eichhorn. She was also predeceased by her loving husband, William "Gardner" Horton and her youngest sister Mary Carol Leland.

In her early years, Marie worked at Colonial Stores, followed by Chartered Bus Service where she was the office manager, and then at Gallop Bus Lines as an office manager. Finally, she worked at Chesapeake Place Assisted Living, retiring in 2015. Marie's hobbies were crafting, making decorative wreaths, baking, and sewing. She absolutely loved the holidays and Christmas was her favorite. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her grandson, Duke. She loved to welcome each season with a flag on the front porch, and always looked forward to the seasonal pumpkin spice and holiday blend coffees her son would bring her from Fresh Market. She often passed the time watching nostalgic episodes on TV Land in her home of forty-one years.

Marie fought against an aggressive form of breast cancer for nearly four years before ultimately succumbing to the disease and the cumulative effects of chemotherapy. Despite the constant suffering of that time, Marie never missed a family gathering, celebration, or holiday, relishing the opportunity to make memories with family. She will be remembered for her toughness, generosity, and witty sense of humor.

Left to cherish her memory is her loving son, Robert Dozier Jr. (wife Lindsay Eure and their son Duke), her loving daughter Karen Marie Dozier, sister Barbara Nero, her brother Arnold "Buddy" Eichhorn Jr., and several nieces and nephews.

An internment ceremony will be held on Saturday, September 13th at 11:00am, 2025 at Chesapeake Memorial Gardens, 524 Cedar Road Chesapeake, VA 23322. There will be a private gathering for family and close friends on Sunday, September 14th. If desired, flowers and condolences may be sent to the family at 2016 Burson Drive, Chesapeake, VA 23323.

Dear Karen and Bobby and other Family members, I am so sorry for your loss. Marie and I were neighbors for the past 40+ years. We also worked together at Chesapeake Place. Marie was a warm, friendly person who will be sorely missed. I am so sorry for her long suffering with her disease and that God has now healed her and taken away her suffering. It is never easy to give up those we love but we don't want them to suffer either. God bless and may God give each of you peace during this time and days to come.

Marie was one of the most genuinely kind people I've ever met. I feel blessed to have known her for all the years I did. I loved seeing her dress up and come into the PT clinic I worked at for the Holidays. I'm so sorry for such a loss. Sending love and prayers to her family.
