Bonnie Suzanne Umphlet, 62, passed away peacefully on August 27, 2025, in Chesapeake, Virginia. Bonnie was born in Norfolk, Virginia on September 21, 1962, to the late Helen Faye Gifford Whitley and Joseph B. Wood Sr.

She was a dedicated employee of Albano Cleaners for 18 years where she was an integral member of building a positive community as well as acting as a consistent and comforting presence in the lives of her customers and colleagues alike.

She was preceded in death by her first love Harold "Leo" Kinney as well as husband and father to her children, George C. Umphlet. Left to cherish her memory is her daughter Ashley E. Sumption; her sons, Chief Warrant Officer 3 (Ret) Christopher M. Wood and Sean D. Umphlet; grandchildren, Lance Corporal Michael T. Wood, Jacob C. Wood, Logan M. Sumption, Rebekah E. Sumption and Charlotte "Charlie" M. Sumption; brothers, Ronnie Wood (Diana), Donnie Wood (Janet), Joe Wood and Jeff Wood (Deidra).

In her later years, she enjoyed watching all her favorite TV game shows as well as spending quality time with her children and grandchildren. Throughout her life, she exemplified a dedicated and unique bond to animals and was passionate about animal welfare. She is also survived by her 10-year-old cat, "Baby girl".
