Catherine Losch

With deep sorrow, the family of Catherine "Cathy" Losch of New Smyrna Beach, Florida, announces her passing on October 30, 2025. She died peacefully at the Hospice Care Center in Edgewater while holding her daughter's hand. Cathy was born in Fair Oaks, Pennsylvania, the first of her family born in the United States to her Croatian parents, Mile and Anna Spolarich.
Raised in a close-knit Catholic community, Cathy discovered her voice early by helping her father read legal papers and financial statements, experiences that kindled a lifelong talent for numbers. She became a bookkeeper and served at Colonial High School in Orange County, Florida, later advancing to a county role before retiring. After retirement, she and her husband moved to the beach, where they turned their home into a welcoming, vacation-style gathering place for family and friends. Cathy spent much of her time and energy contributing to a variety of charities, from serving meals at the Hospice Care Center to weaving mats for the homeless.
Cathy married her high school sweetheart, Joseph "Joe" Losch, in Ambridge, Pennsylvania, and they shared 56 years of marriage until his death in 2014. She is survived by her four children: Christina (Karl) Hackenbrack of Nashville, Tennessee; Linda Tomarelli of New Smyrna Beach, Florida; Joseph (Tracy) Losch Jr. of Orlando, Florida; and Patricia (Robert) Sullivan of Winter Park, Florida. She is lovingly remembered as Memaw by her nine grandchildren: Kari Tomarelli, Nicole Hackenbrack, Megan (Nick Dugan) Sullivan, Max Hackenbrack, Casey Sullivan, Joshua Losch, Olivia Losch, Caleb Losch, and Noah Losch.
Cathy was predeceased by her husband, her parents, and her four siblings: Katherine Spolarich, Donald Spolarich, Vincent Spolarich, and Mary Spolarich Poulos.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 998 Father Donlon Drive, New Smyrna Beach, on Thursday, December 18, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. A reception will follow in Burke Hall.
