Catherine "Cathy" Jones McComb, age 79 of Starkville, MS passed away surrounded by family on Wednesday, January 7, 2026.
Cathy was born October 23, 1946, to William and Betty Jones of Crystal Springs, MS. She attended Crystal Springs High School and went on to attend Mississippi University for Women, earning her Bachelor of Science. She later attended Mississippi State University and earned her Master of Education.
Cathy was a teacher and educator for over 32 years, spending most of her career teaching special education to students whom she loved dearly. In her free time she loved cooking, reading, crossword puzzles, gardening, cheering on the Bulldogs and doting on her grandchildren. She most enjoyed spending quality time with family and friends during dinners, tailgates, sporting events, and church. She was a devoted wife and an amazing and loving mother and grandmother. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Starkville, MS where she was a valued member of her Sunday school class and a regular volunteer in the church nursery.
Cathy is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Carles Franklin McComb, her daughter Meredith Slay Jeffords of Madison, MS and her son William Reed McComb of Birmingham, AL. She is also survived by her two beloved grandchildren, Addison Reed Jeffords and Logan Scott Jeffords as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
Cathy is proceeded in death by her father, William Howard Jones, her mother Betty Cowan Jones, and her two brothers Jerrell Cowan Jones and Bob Scott Jones.
Visitation will be held at First Baptist Church in Starkville, MS on Sunday, January 11th from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm, with a service to follow at 2:00 pm. A graveside service will take place at Spring Valley Cemetery in Mathiston, MS.
