Kenneth Rivers Obituary

Kenneth Rivers, Sr., age 89, of Starkville, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, veteran, and friend, Kenneth, known as Buddy to his friends, lived a life defined by hard work, quiet strength, and deep love for the people and places that meant the most to him.
Kenneth was born September 1, 1936 in Arcola, Mississippi, to Howard and Lillian Rivers. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, carrying with him a strong sense of duty and integrity throughout his life.
Following his military service, Kenneth built a long and respected career at Mississippi State University, where he served as Manager of Dining Services for 30 years. Known for his reliability, leadership, and steady presence, he retired after three decades of dedicated service to the university community.
In retirement, Kenneth fully embraced the life he loved most, one spent outdoors and with family. An avid outdoorsman, he found great joy in hunting, fishing, and caring for the land. For many years he owned and tended a horse farm, a place where he poured countless hours of work and pride. His lawn was known by many as one of the most beautiful and meticulously kept you could ever see. When he wasn't outside, Kenneth could often be found in his workshop, patiently fixing anything and everything he could get his hands on.
Though he might not have been the biggest man in the room, Kenneth possessed the biggest heart and spirit. He loved his family deeply and fiercely, and that love was felt in every quiet act of care, guidance, and devotion he gave throughout his life.
He is preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Melony Rivers; his parents, Howard and Lillian Rivers; and many of his siblings.
Kenneth leaves behind a family who will forever cherish his memory: his beloved wife of 66 years, Margaret Thompson Rivers; his son, Kenneth Rivers, Jr. (Debbie) of Maben, Mississippi, along with her sons Toby Brigham and Wayne Monts; and his daughter, Carey Rivers Miller (Gary) of Mount Washington, Kentucky. He was a proud Pawpaw to Madison Withers, Garrison Miller, and Hudson Miller.
Kenneth's legacy lives on in the family he loved so dearly, the values he instilled, and the countless memories made outdoors, around the home he built, and in the hearts of those who knew him. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered always.
Visitation is scheduled for Saturday, March 14, 2026 from 1:00-3:00 PM at Center Grove Baptist Church, with the service immediately following.  Rev. Don Parrish will conduct the service.  Burial will be in Center Grove Baptist Church cemetery.
