Ronnie Amacker Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by McDonald Funeral Home & Cremation Services - Picayune on Mar. 10, 2026.
Ronnie Joe Amacker, 75, lifelong native of Carriere, Mississippi, passed away peacefully at home on March 9, 2026, surrounded by loved ones after a long and fulfilling life.

Born in Picayune, Mississippi on October 6, 1950, Ronnie returned to the home where he would spend most of his life and raise his own family. He grew up with a brother and a sister and surrounded by cousins, where he spent his childhood climbing trees and developing a love of the outdoors.

Ronnie graduated from Mississippi State University with a degree in forestry but detoured after finding a passion for teaching. He spent his career teaching junior high math, striving to improve young people's lives beyond the classroom. His desire to cultivate the potential he saw in others remained a fixture of his life well beyond his years in front of a chalkboard.

To the surprise of everyone who knew him and himself, he met his soulmate, Monica, whom he began seeing on March 31, 1989. The two quickly became inseparable as she spent the next 36 years dedicated to the challenging goal of smoothing his edges, and, by many accounts, had mostly succeeded.

From hunting wild hogs to raising chickens, the two did everything together, and in 1995, their lives would be enriched even more with the birth of their son, Danny, when they began a new family in the same home where Ronnie grew up and spent most of his life.

An avid lover of the outdoors, he retired from teaching and spent the remainder of his life dedicated to the things that brought him joy, including hunting wild hogs and spending time with his family. He often took young men in the community hunting, many of whom were family, and, in many instances, would later take their sons hunting as well once their fathers could no longer keep up with him. For years, he worked with the Wounded Warrior Project, taking veterans on their annual hunt to thank them for their service. His line of hunting dogs, which he raised and perfected throughout his life, is one of his greatest achievements, behind only his family and the many friendships he fostered.

Later in life, he returned to the Lord and became a member of Serenity Baptist Church of White Sand, where he finally found his home.

He was never shy about his beliefs, valuing honesty at ease's expense and a ruffled feather or two along the way. Yet he always set out to make the lives around him better, most of all as a husband and father, two roles where he succeeded even to his own high standards.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bennie Lloyd Amacker and Josephine Amacker, and his brother Mike Amacker.

He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Monica Amacker; his son, Danny Amacker; his sister, Melba (Russ) Elkins; and his nieces and nephews, Glenn (Sonnet), Stacy Amacker, and Rusty Elkins. Courtney (Brad) Borland and many other family and friends. A special thanks to his loving caregivers, his wife Monica Amacker and niece Stacy Amacker.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, March 13, 2026 at 11:00 AM, at Serenity Missionary Baptist Church.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 12, 2026 from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM at McDonald Funeral Home, and again on Friday, March 13, from 10:00 AM until service time at 11:00 AM at Serenity Missionary Baptist Church.

Burial will follow at Serenity Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.
