Gary Nichols, a man of unwavering kindness, passed away peacefully on March 6, 2026, at Forrest General Hospital at the age of 73. He was born on December 27, 1952, in
Magee, MS, to Elmer and Verna Mae Westmoreland Nichols.
Gary's journey began in the town he always called home, Magee, where he laid down the foundation of a life marked by dedication and service. His academic achievements were notable, as he proudly graduated with a Bachelor's degree from Mississippi State University. His love for MS State sports was more than just a pastime; it was a passion that brought him joy and camaraderie.
Professionally, Gary was the respected manager of the Magee Co-Operative, a role he held with distinction for many years. It was here that Gary's friendly demeanor and thoughtful approach to business helped him forge countless lifelong friendships. His impact on the community was immeasurable, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who knew him.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Verna Mae Nichols, and grandson, Dillon Ridgely.
He leaves to cherish his memories his wife of 36 years, Jauwina Bounds Nichols; his daughters, Mitzi Nichols Floyd (Anthony), and Malissa Goodling (Curtis), as well as his son, Richard Ridgely (Jeanie); his sister, Ilene Floyd, with whom he shared an unbreakable bond that carried them through life's many seasons. Gary's role as a grandfather was one he cherished deeply, showering love and wisdom upon his grandchildren, Connor Cone, Taylre Bryant Walker, Presleigh Bryant Errington (Dalen), Payton Ridgely, Addison Ridgely, and Haley Ridgely, beloved wife of Dillon; his great-grandchildren, Jaxon Ridgely, Andi Kate Ridgely, Riley Walker, and Elliotte "Ellie Mae" Errington, were the lights of his life, bringing him immense pride and joy.
An avid fisherman, Gary found peace and solace by the water. His love for the outdoors was matched only by his enjoyment of MS State football and baseball games. Many will remember the laughter and stories shared at Eagle Lake, where Gary loved to spend time with friends and family. Those moments are now cherished memories that will continue to warm the hearts of those who were there.
Gary Nichols will be remembered as a friendly, kind, and thoughtful man who left an indelible mark on the lives of those he touched. His legacy is one of love, service, and the simple joys of a well-lived life. As we bid farewell to Gary, we do so with gratitude for the time we had with him and the lessons he taught us through his example. His spirit will live on in the hearts of his loved ones and the community he served so selflessly.
