Catherine Victoria Wentzel

Catherine V. Wentzel, 88, of Laureldale, died January 3, 2026 in Tower Health / Reading Hospital.

She was the widow of Richard D. Wentzel, who died March 22, 2023.

Born in her Reading, Pearl Street residence on December 23, 1937, she was a daughter of the late Andrew J. and Susanna (Posivak) Dutko.

Catherine was a 1955 graduate of Reading Central Catholic High School.

She was employed as a keypunch operator for 7 years with American Casualty, Reading, retiring in 1962.

Catherine volunteered in the social hall at Central Fire Company, Laureldale.

She loved spending time with her grandchildren and was an avid fan of the Philadelphia Eagles and Philadelphia Phillies.

Catherine is survived by her daughter, Kathleen A. (Wentzel), wife of Robert Mitchell of Muhlenberg Township.

She was the proud grandmother of three granddaughters: Christina L. Mitchell, Kimberley M. Mitchell, and Sarah L. Mitchell.

Other survivors include a sister, Helen E. (Dutko), widow of Donald E. Graczyk of Laureldale; three nephews; and two nieces.

Catherine was predeceased by a nephew and three siblings: Mary Dutko; John A. Dutko; and Sophie C. McDevitt.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, January 9th at 11:00 am in Holy Guardian Angels R.C. Church, 3121 Kutztown Road, Reading, PA 19605.

A viewing will be held Friday from 10:00 - 11:00 am in the church.

Burial will be in Gethsemane Cemetery, Muhlenberg Township.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the church at the above address.
