Cathey Roth passed away peacefully in the middle of the night on August 14, 2025. She was the second child born to Robert Milton Hayley and Joy Stennis Waldrop Hayley. She is survived by her sister, Marguerite Priest and brother, Eric Purfurst; her four sons- George Cumings, Hardy Boydston, Stephen Roth, and Cody Roth. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Christian Cumings, Savannah Roth, Elliot Roth, Remi Roth, Auden Roth, Addison Cumings, and Farrah Boydston. Also mourning her are a wealth of cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Cathey was born and raised in
Houston, TX where she lived most of her life. Cathey attended Valley Oaks Elementary, Spring Branch Middle School, Spring Branch High School, Blinn Junior College, and Ranger School of Insurance, becoming a certified multi-line insurance adjuster.
Cathy accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior in middle school and was active throughout her youth at Beracha Church. In later years, she became a follower of Joyce Meyers' ministry.
Cathey loved to swim. As a teenager, she became a certified swimming instructor at the Spring Branch YWCA. Many of her favorite childhood memories were made swimming in Texas lakes and rivers, and of course spending days at the beach in Galveston. Later she would instill this same love of adventure with her own children at her weekend house located on Lake Livingston, where she made many wonderful memories with her family.
Tragedy struck Cathey in 1966, when her father suddenly passed away. She loved him dearly. She is now reunited with him, as well as her mother, who passed away in 2016.
Cathey was a talented thespian in high school, performing in several high school plays and musicals. She was also heavily involved in her community, spending hours and hours at "the ballpark" for the Spring Branch Little League, as well as volunteering for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and the Spring Branch
Special Olympics.
Cathey was "the fun aunt" to Jeremy and Matt, often taking them on mischievous adventures. She was especially patient and loving toward her nephew, Bryan, sharing with him not only her love of dogs, but also the TV show COPS.
Cathey valued her longtime friendships with family and schoolmates. She loved visiting her Mississippi cousins, Billie Van Devender and wife, Mollie, and Sallie Van Devender. And her relationships with Kara Knapo Ferguson and Don Halcomb have continued to enrich her life throughout at the years.
Cathey loved her dogs, her boys, and, of course, her Houston Astros, who lost their number one fan. Her legacy will live on in the form of 7 lovely grandchildren, whose big hearts and big smiles will be forever laced with Cathey Roth charisma.
Cathey, you will be missed.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday August 23, 2025 with a Visitation beginning at 10:30 AM. Service to begin at 11:30 AM.
A Celebration of Life will follow the service at Karbauch Brewing located at 2032 Karbach St,
Houston, TX 77092.
