Cathy Yvonne Jimenez

Catherine “Cathy” Yvonne Granger was born June 9, 1953, in Las Cruces, NM to John Henry Granger and Rita Mae Rech. She graduated from Las Cruces High School in 1971. Cathy met and married Jay Miller in 1979. In the fall of 1998, Cathy and Jay welcomed their son Dylan Granger Miller into their lives.

Cathy worked for the State of New Mexico as a HVAC and Plumbing Inspector. She was later recruited to work for the City of Las Cruces Community Development Department as a Mechanical, Plumbing and HVAC Inspector under the careful guidance of Mark Allen Torres. While Construction Industries was still a male dominated business, she was the first female to be a certified Electrical, Mechanical, HVAC and Building Inspector for the State of New Mexico, City of Las Cruces and County of Dona Ana. Cathy retired from Dona Ana County Community Development as the Chief Building Official in 2015.

While working at Dona Ana County Cathy met and married Joe Jimenez Jr. Cathy enjoyed camping, bowling, and spending time with her friends. She loved spending time with her son Dylan whether it was attending all his school activities or just hanging out and being mother and son. Dylan is and will always be her pride and joy. Cathy was an avid bowler and was an important presence in the bowling community. She was the Vice President of the “Las Ristras de Las Cruces” International Woman’s Bowling Club and participated in many international and National tournaments. In 2015, Cathy was a member of the women’s team representing Las Cruces, Placing 2nd Nationally at the USBC Women’s Tournament. Cathy was an active member of BPOE/Elks Lodge #1119.

Cathy is Survived by her Son Dylan Granger Miller, his fiancé Kyannah Mendoza and grandson Mark Mendoza, Joseph Ray Clark, Sabrina (Justin) Aragon, AJ (Kori) Jimenez, Jessica Jimenez, Mother-in-law Mary Jane Jimenez, and so many other loving friends and family.

Cathy was Preceded in death by her husband Joe Jimenez Jr., her dad John Henry Granger, mom Rita Mae Rech and father Darwin Norgard Jr.

Cathy will be forever remembered as the Firecracker of the party and the “Never Say No” to any opportunity to have fun and make a difference in someone’s life.

Services for Cathy will be held at Getz Funeral Home, 1410 E. Bowman Ave., Las Cruces, NM 88001 on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at 10:00am. A reception to follow at The Game # 2, 4131 Northrise Dr., Las Cruces, NM 88011
