Cathy C. Montgomery, 71 of North Little Rock passed away on Friday, November 10, 2023. She was born in Muskogee, Oklahoma on August 6, 1952 to Walter J. Calvert and Barbara (Hair) Calvert.
She is preceded in death by her father, Walter J. Calvert; mother, Barbara (Hair) Calvert Sisco; stepfather, Virl Sisco; sister, Linda Sue Patterson; two uncles, Herman and Dwight Hair; three aunts, Joyce Schnerre, Lucille Hair, and Bessie Hair.
She was a lifetime member of the Moose Lodge in Sherwood and a lifetime member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She was always a kind and dear friend. In years past the North Little Rock Elks Lodge had soup teams that cooked on Thursdays, 1-2 times a month for lunch. Cathy, her husband, Buddy, Cornbread Bob, Clyde Cook and Sandra Taylor cooked the veggie beef soup, hot and regular cornbread, regular and hot pinto beans and white beans. All you eat! Sometimes feeding 60 folks and over plus to-go bowls. It took two days to prepare and cook this glorious soup. Cathy was the genius behind the soup and what a delicious soup! Although not a lodge member, her husband, Buddy was and she was right there beside him cooking and working. They both spent countless hours getting the soup cooked and prepped. This entailed getting up at 4 a.m. to get to the lodge to put the beans on. Sometimes opening at 11 a.m. and selling out by 11:15 a.m. and a ton was cooked. Cathy was an awesome Elks volunteer.
Cathy is survived by her husband of 24 years, Buddy Earl Montgomery of North Little Rock, Arkansas; brother, James “Jim” and wife Dean Calvert of Campbell, Texas; sister-in-law, Carol Kinchen of Little Rock, Arkansas; 2 step-children, 5 step-grandchildren; and numerous step-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at Smith North Little Rock Funeral Home on Monday, November 20, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. followed by burial at 12:00 p.m. at Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery in North Little Rock, Arkansas.
