Cathy Lee (Raney) Vantlin went home to be with Jesus on Monday, December 16, 2024, surrounded by family in the house she made into a home for 43 years with her loving husband, Doug.
Cathy was born on April 9, 1959, to James "Jim" Raney and Burdette (Ivers) Raney.
She graduated from South Knox High School in 1977. Before she graduated, she met her high school sweetheart and lifelong partner, Doug Vantlin. They married in 1981 and created a family with their 3 children Beth, Cara and Amy.
Cathy spent her early years as a wife and mother staying home with her children. Her days were filled with sewing, cooking, baking and spending time with her young daughters. At 28 years old and 3 young children at home she enrolled in nursing school. In 1990 she graduated Summa Cum Laude from Nursing at Vincennes University.
Cathy started her nursing career at Good Samaritan Hospital as a Pediatric nurse. After leaving the hospital she spent the majority of her career working as a nurse for Dr. Charles Hendrix, Jr. where she would eventually retire. She would also spend several years as a nurse for Dr. Goskowski and Dr. Jarek Pacheco.
Cathy loved Jesus and enjoyed her time with her Bible study group and the Emmaus community where she served as a board member and twice as a lay director. She worshipped Jesus everywhere, but she spent her lifetime worshipping on Sundays at St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church, Word of Life Church and Mariah Creek Christian Church. Her most favorite pastime was spending time with her husband, kids and grandchildren. She loved being a "mawmaw" to her 10 grandchildren and always said she wished she could have been a grandma first.
Cathy is preceded in death by her parents, James "Jim" Raney, Burdette (Ivers) Raney and her father-in-law Ed Vantlin.
Cathy is survived by her husband, Doug Vantlin, their 3 children Beth (Nick) Horrell, Cara (Ian) Gilmore, Amy Waldroup; 10 grandchildren Elliott, Isaac and Noah Horrell, Leela, Amy, Eli, Brooks, and Briar Gilmore, Lena and Ry Waldroup. She is also survived by her 3 sisters Anita (Verne) Deckard; Peggy (Junior) Wagoner, Mary Anne (Bert) Stevens; mother-in-law Marilyn Vantlin; brothers and sisters in law Jeff (Julia) Vantlin, Laura (Mike) Montgomery, Janice (Roger) Jones, Lynette (Randy) Langebrake, Brenda (Todd) Donovan and Eddie (Shelly) Vantlin.
