Cathy L. Whitmer, a beloved family matriarch, passed away on March 4, 2026, in Pickerington, Ohio. Born on September 7, 1957, in Nelsonville, Ohio, Cathy lived a life full of love, laughter, and cherished memories.
Cathy was known for her charismatic and vibrant personality. She had a big heart and a loving nature, which endeared her to everyone who knew her. She always planned family vacations and making sure everything was taken care of, from family trips to the ocean to camping adventures. Her favorite place was Siesta Key Beach, where many happy memories were created.
Cathy's interests included bird watching, taking care of her beloved cats, Kitty Boy and Mopsy, feeding squirrels, and enjoying good food, particularly from Ding Ho Restaurant. She was an avid reader and found joy in the simple pleasures of life.
Above all, Cathy was immensely proud of her family. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Carl, and her two daughters, Melanie (Jeremy Richards) Hoover and Mandi Whitmer. She adored her grandsons, Drew Hoover and Zachary Hoover (Haley), and took great delight in her great-grandchildren, Karleigh, Grayson, and Everly. Cathy also leaves behind her mother, Charline Roofe, and brothers Charlie, Dale (Julie), Jeff, and Terry Roofe, along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and best friends, Tammy Flowers and Joyce Frabott Beauman.
Cathy was preceded in death by her father, Charles Roofe, her son, Carl A. Whitmer, and her best friend, Pearl Butler.
A memorial gathering to honor Cathy's life will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home, Southwest, located at 3393 Broadway, Grove City, Ohio, 43123, on March 12, 2026, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM.
Cathy L. Whitmer will be deeply missed by all who knew her, as she leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness that will resonate through her family for generations to come.
