Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather was taken to be with our Lord to eternal life on Monday, September 29, 2025 at the age of 91. He was born on November 11, 1933, in Santa Fe, New Mexico, to Luis and Florinda Leyba. He served in the US Army. He retired from the Los Alamos National Laboratory in 1990 as a Journeyman Machinist. He loved to play music and established the band “The Hi-Landers of Santa Fe”. He also played in El Mariachi Porvenir and the St. Anne’s Choir.
He is preceded in death by his wife Connie Leyba; daughter Jeannie Romero; parents Luis and Florida Leyba; parents-in-law Luis and Eduvigen Martinez; sisters Katie Baca (husband Pasqual), Selina Byers (husband Jackie), Toni Montoya (husband Albert), and Chanita Leyba; brothers Mike Leyba and Paul Leyba. Sisters-in-law Pauline Leyba, Helen Lucero, and Rosina Jimenez; Brothers-in-law Author Hentzen, Tomas Gonzales, Victor Vandersommen, Kelly Martinez (wife Antonia) and Carlos Martinez.
Cayetano will be remembered by his loving sons Louie Leyba (wife Krisha) and Leroy Leyba (wife Melisa); daughter Lorraine Bowser; grandchildren AshLee Leyba (Max), Ariel Leyba, Lisa Leyba, Leroy Leyba Jr. (Felisha), Dionna Bowser, Rose Romero, and Ramon Romero Jr.; great grandchildren Roman Villa, Layla Villa, Arriana Terrazza, Aalyviah Leyba, Amelia Leyba, Eamon Connery Jr., Elijah Connery, A’Ishah Romero, Amerie Romero, Nevaeh Romero, and Lukis Trujillo; sisters Mary Jo Gonzales, Mary Louise Rodriguez (husband Mike), Marcella Vandersommen, and Aurora Hentzen; brothers Jerry Leyba, Ray Leyba (wife Vicky), sisters-in-law Tomasita Leyba and Dinah Perea; and many nieces/nephews and dear friends.
A Rosary will be held on Monday, October 20, 2025, at 9:00 AM at St. Annes Church followed by a Mass at 10:00 AM. Burial will be held at 12:30 PM at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.
