Cecil Conley Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Evans Funeral Home & Cremation Services on Mar. 10, 2026.
Cecil Ray Conley, 74, of Chapmanville, WV, passed away Saturday, March 7, 2026, from his residence after a long battle with heart and lung disease.

He was born on May 20, 1951, in Logan, WV, a son of the late Cecil and Verna Whitt Conley.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Peggy Lou Dowdy, an infant brother, his father-in-law, Thurman Starr, and his mother-in-law, Joyce Dalton.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 52 years, Kathy Starr Conley, his daughter, Kristi (Richard) Hurst of Chapmanville, WV, his son, David Ray Conley, of Chapmanville, WV, his grandchildren, Corey (Hannah) Hurst, Emily (Hunter) Nelson, Dylan Hurst, Coleman Conley, and Charles Conley, and his great-granddaughter, Kensley Lynn Marie Nelson, all of Chapmanville, WV, his sister, Mary Jane Maynard of Rockwell, North Carolina, and his sisters-in-law, Libby Procopio of Whitman, WV, and Becky Meadows of Wylie, Texas. He is also survived by his faithful dog, Buddy, and a host of extended family and friends.

Cecil was a member of the UMWA and was a proud coal miner for 37 years, having retired from Hobet Mining Company in 2013. He was known throughout the coalfields for his skills on a coal loader and had a skill that few others could match.

Before his illness, he attended Chapmanville United Baptist Church on Airport Road, Chapmanville, WV. Cecil loved working the ground on the tractor with his son, raising a garden, providing fresh vegetables to his neighbors, and playing the guitar. He taught his children to work hard, to help others, and to always be kind. He left behind many precious memories that his family will carry in their hearts forever.

To honor Cecil's wishes, his remains will be cremated, and there will be no services.

"I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:" 2 Timothy 4:7
