Cecil "Rennie" Arendell Moore, 78, of Harkers Island, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 7, 2025, at the Crystal Coast Hospice House.
A funeral service to honor Rennie’s life will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, November 15th at Refuge Fellowship Church, officiated by Rev. Manley B. Rose Jr. Interment will follow at Vergie Mae Cemetery on Harkers Island. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. For those unable to attend, the service can be viewed through his obituary page on Munden Funeral Home’s website.
Cecil Arendell Moore, "Rennie", was born on August 5th, 1947, to Cecil Julian Moore and Esther Willis Moore of Harkers Island. Rennie was named after his maternal grandfather, Willie Arendell Willis.
As a child, Rennie cherished life on the coast as a true Harkers Island boy. He loved all kinds of hunting, taking his skiff back and forth to the banks, running horses with his family, and sharing plenty of good old-fashioned fun with his friends and cousins. In 1966, Rennie was in a tragic car accident that forever changed his life. With many prayers and Rennie's strong spirit, he recovered and became what many Doctor's described as a living miracle. His devoted parents, Cecil and Esther, dedicated their lives to ensuring Rennie received the best care possible.
Before his passing, Rennie lived at the Crystal Bluffs Assisted Living facility in Morehead City. When asked if he ever wanted to go back to Harkers Island, he would grin and say, “No ma’am, I’m a Moreheader now!” Rennie loved participating in games, themed nights, and all the activities that made his new home so special. Everyone who met him quickly learned about his love for Elvis Presley’s music—and for El’s cheeseburgers.
Rennie loved spending time with his family, especially his sister, Tammy, and her three children—Kristin, Amanda, and Mabrey Jr. (or as Rennie lovingly called him, “Little Mabe”). A lifelong fan of Elvis Presley, Rennie was thrilled to visit Graceland, celebrating the music and spirit of “The King” that brought him so much joy.
Rennie lived a very special life, and as his family, we are blessed to have had him on this Earth for as long as we did. Rennie will be remembered for his infectious smile, bright blue eyes, contagious laughter, and joyful spirit. His love for family, friends, and the simple pleasures of life will continue to bring smiles to all who were blessed to know him.
Rennie is survived by his sister, Tammy Moore Turner, and her husband, Carl Turner; his nieces, Kristin Rochelle Smith and Amanda Juliane Bonner, and her husband, Drew Bonner; his nephew, Mabrey Smith Jr.; and his grand-nieces, Lucy Grace Bonner and his namesake, Eliza Wren Bonner.
Rennie was preceded in death by his mother, Esther Willis Moore, and his father, Cecil Julian Moore.
