Cecil Ronal O'Quinn Sr. May 22, 1939 -November 30, 2025, Cecil Ronal O'Quinn Sr., age 86 of Surfside Beach, South Carolina, passed away on November 30, 2025, at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on May 22, 1939, in Savannah, Georgia, to John Wesley O'Quinn Sr. and Capitola Ann Long O'Quinn. In addition to his parents, Cecil was preceded in death by his brother, John (Johnny) Wesley O'Quinn Jr. (Mary) and his sisters, Shirley Perkins (Edward) and Joan Palmer. Cecil leaves behind the love of his life, his wife, Delores (Doby) Robbins O'Quinn; his daughter, Pamela O'Quinn Scalzott (Don); and his son, Cecil Ronal O'Quinn Jr. (Kim). He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Tracey Ann Scalzott, Donald Guy Scalzott (Jordan), Chapman Wesley O'Quinn (Kayleigh), Daughtrey Cooper O'Quinn (Kayla), and great-granddaughter, Sadie Mae Scalzott. He is also survived by his step-grandchildren, Taylor Phillips (Christian) and Cassie Phillips (Christian), as well as step-great grandchildren Blakelyn, Marsalina and Nash.
Cecil was a faithful member of South Strand Assembly for more than 40 years. When the church purchased an old seafood restaurant in Surfside, he was among the first to step up and help transform it into a sanctuary-a project he was deeply proud of.
He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force at Myrtle Beach SC, receiving honorable discharge in 1960. In 1962 Cecil then began a long civil service career at the same base before transferring to Parris Island Marine Base, in Beaufort SC when the Myrtle Beach Air Force Base closed in 1993 and retiring in 1995 after decades of dedicated service.
Cecil had a remarkable talent for woodworking, creating countless pieces for those he loved. He would often smile and say, "I'm going to make sawdust," before heading out to his workshop. He also enjoyed collecting lighthouses and elephants, tending to his cactus, and growing his favorite plant, lucky bamboo.
A huge sports fan, Cecil had a love for the Clemson Tigers football and NFL football and supported his children and grandchildren in all their sports and activities. He took particular pride in watching his son coach football, baseball, swimming, and fast-pitch softball. To his grandchildren, he was lovingly known as "Pop." Some of his fondest memories included spending time at the beach, fishing with his grandchildren, and cruising the neighborhood in their golf cart he and Grandma had just for them-they'd all pile on laughing and holding on tight as Pop drove.
Cecil's life was rooted in love, faith, and quiet strength. His daughter, Pam, always knew her father never wavered in his faith and stood firmly for his Christianity-a legacy she will carry with her forever.
Cecil was dearly loved, and his legacy will live on in the memories he created, the faith he lived by, and the family who will forever carry his love with them.
