Cecil Mack Sherrill, age 84 of Springfield passed away on January 28, 2023, at Northcrest Medical Center.
He was born on April 14, 1938, in Tullahoma, Tennessee to the late Walter Mack Sherrill and Allie Mae Cunningham Sherrill.
In 1980, Mr. Sherrill married the love of his life, Ms. Velma Street, on September 13, 1980, and gained a full family including her five children whom he loved as his own. Their life together was full of happiness and laughter over the next 42 years. They became the light of his life and his purpose. He worked hard
for his family as a block mason for many years.
When he wasn’t working his sole focus was on his family. They enjoyed fishing, hunting, and raising a vegetable garden. He and Mrs. Velma enjoyed riding motorcycles and camping. They enjoyed spending all their time with the grandchildren including time at Fall Creek Falls teaching the children how to ride their bikes and fish.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Sherrill is preceded in death by his daughter, Rena K Black; grandson, Ryan Hitchon, and five siblings.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Velma Sherrill; children. Douglas James Hitchon, Rebecca (Joey) Burns, Jimmy (Leslie) Street, and Sherry Novalee Street; son-in-law, Ronnie Black; brother-in-law, Darl (Helen) Bolin; grandchildren, Nic (Candle) Black, Clarissa Hitchon, Jonathan Black, Jody Burns, Faith
Hitchon, Justin Bracey, Allie Hitchon, Drew Bracey, Abigail Hitchon, Ivy Hitchon, and Dallin Mayes.
A life celebration will be held on Wednesday, February 1, 2023, at 2pm in the chapel of Springfield Funeral Home. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 11am until the time of service. The family requests memorial donations be sent to St. Jude Children’s Hospital: https://www.stjude.org/donate/ or to the American Cancer Society: https://donate3.cancer.org/.
