Cecil Walker Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home - Whitley City on Jun. 11, 2025.
Cecil Odell Walker, age 93, of Parkers Lake, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, in Lexington, Kentucky and was placed in the care of Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 14, 2025 at 3:00 pm at the Walkers Chapel Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Nevelsville Cemetery. The family will receive friends after 1:00 pm Saturday at the church.

Born December 6, 1931, in Parkers Lake, Cecil was the son of the late Oscar Walker and Sally Cook Walker. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy, where he was stationed aboard the aircraft carriers Yorktown and Essex with Squadron 123. A proud Korean War veteran, Cecil was recently honored for his service by being selected to participate in the Honors Flight, a moment that brought him great pride and joy.

After his military service, he drove a truck for Dixie Transport Service. Cecil dedicated many years to the U.S. Postal Service, working in various roles including postal inspector, mail carrier, and postmaster. Known for his warmth and dedication, he was a beloved mail carrier whose customers often left him homemade treats and tokens of appreciation. Following his retirement from the postal service, he continued serving the community for over 30 years as a valued member of the staff at Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home, where he became not only a dependable and loyal coworker but a member of their extended family.

Cecil was deeply involved in his community. He served 12 years on the McCreary County School Board and was an active member of Walkers Chapel, where he faithfully served as a deacon for 51 years. His love for the Lord guided his life, and he was known for his generous spirit and willingness to help anyone in need.

Cecil loved the outdoors and cherished family gatherings where he would hold court by regaling everyone with stories. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who found joy in the simple pleasures of life and in the company of those he loved most.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Oscar "Shad" Walker and Paul Walker, and sisters, Geraldine Hunt and Marcella Perry.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 69 years, Elaine Walker, whom he married on April 14, 1956; a son, Tim Walker and his wife, Lynnette; a daughter, Sally Blankenship and her husband, Hoss; two grandsons, Michael Blankenship and his wife, Katie, and Bryan Blankenship and his wife, Beth; six great-grandchildren, Kenlee, Caleb, Cade, Owen, Bryson, and Grace Blankenship and a special niece, Allyson Bassett and her husband, Todd.

Cecil leaves behind a legacy of service, faith, and love. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Cecil's faith has ended in sight.

David and Carol Howe

June 14, 2025

When Carol and I came here from Ohio and moved into the Louis Walker house in 1979, Cecil was postmaster, operating the post office next door. We didn´t get much mail, but when we did Cecil would hand deliver it, with a smile. He was always helpful, always upbeat, and kept us informed of things going on in the neighborhood. We shared time at a few family reunions, including at his home on Day Ridge, and it was always a pleasure to be with a gathering of Walkers. We thought he´d go on forever, as he´d just returned from that Honor Flight to the nations capitol and seemed to be doing well. Sadly, we learned today he passed away earlier this week.
Our world is a bit more empty with Cecil no longer in it.
