Faye Nevels Sexton, age 81, of Pine Knot, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, January 30, 2026. Her life was a living testimony of service, faith, and devotion to God, family, and community
Born on July 14, 1944, in the Nevelsville community of McCreary County, Faye was the daughter of David Nevels and Dovie Ballou Nevels. From an early age, she displayed a gentle spirit and a heart inclined toward helping others-traits that would define her life's calling. She was also a gifted storyteller, with a creative spirit that found expression through writing songs, books, and sermons that reflected her deep faith and thoughtful nature.
For forty-seven years, Faye faithfully served as an evangelist and senator's wife, standing beside her husband with grace, humility, and unwavering faith. She poured herself into prayer, encouragement, and acts of kindness. Each morning, often in the early hours, Faye could be found reading her Bible and praying-a sacred routine that anchored her life and guided her actions.
Faye pursued her love of learning and service through education, graduating from Eastern Kentucky University with a bachelor's degree in elementary education. Later, she earned her master's degree in library science and curriculum instruction from Tennessee Tech University in Cookeville, Tennessee. Her knowledge and wisdom were never kept to herself; instead, she used them to nurture, teach, and uplift those around her.
Faye took pride in caring for her home and herself, appreciating cleanliness, order, and doing things well. She was known as a hard worker throughout her life, remaining active and helpful right up until the final month, even assisting in cleaning her own home. She found joy in reading and studying her Bible, praying with others, crafting, painting, and most of all, caring for her family. Her home and heart were always open, and many found comfort, counsel, and love through her gentle presence.
Faye was preceded in death by her parents; her brother and sister-in-law, Ralph and Phyllis Nevels; and her sister and brother-in-law, Doris and Gerald Wilson.
She leaves behind a legacy of love and service to be cherished by those who survive her: her devoted husband of sixty years, Senator Landon Sexton, whom she married on January 29, 1966; her son, Paul Sexton; her daughter, Amanda Monhollon and husband Roy; her sister and brother-in-law, Pat and Bill McCracken; her grandchildren, Sydney Pruitt, Carson McKinney and wife Ella, Maddux McKinney, Sadie Monhollon, and Abby Monhollon; her great-grandchild, Spencer Baker; and many nieces and nephews..
Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Hope City Church in Whitley City, burial followed in the Nevelsville Cemetery.
Faye Nevels Sexton truly had a servant's heart. Through prayer, compassion, creativity, and steadfast faith, she touched countless lives and leaves behind an enduring example of what it means to love and serve others well. We know her faith has ended in sight.
