Maria Cecilia Hagen

Cecilia Hagen, 82, of Las Cruces, NM, went to be with her Savior on March 11, 2026. Cecilia was born on February 4, 1944, in Hot Springs, NM, to Luis Terrazas and Virginia Gurule. She was the oldest of eight children and learned at an early age to help care for her siblings and make tortillas for the family. She married Russell Hagen on November 23, 1963, and they went on to have three children together. They were married for 50 years before his passing on March 23, 2014.

Cecilia became a Christian and dedicated her life to the godly education of her children, not just in word, but through her actions. She was a quiet, humble, and steady person of deep faith who put the needs of others before her own. Her Sunday lunch table was open to anyone in need of a meal or fellowship, and she spent many hours on her knees praying for others.

Her defining traits are seen in many scriptures: "Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. Blessed are the merciful, for they will receive mercy. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God" (Matthew 5). These blessings spoken by Jesus were not just for Cecilia-but through her-to her family and friends. She had a sincere faith even through difficult times (2 Timothy 1:5), which is her legacy to her children and grandchildren.

"Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days." (Psalm 90).

She is survived by her son, Eugene Hagen of Silver City; two daughters, Michelle Hernandez of Las Cruces; Kimberly Hernandez and husband Jorge of Phoenix, AZ; nine grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; one brother, Louie Terrazas and wife Mary Ann of Silver City; two sisters, Paula Edens and husband Charles of Silver City; Dominica Guerra and husband Mike of Las Cruces; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, and two infant brothers; her husband Russell Eugene Hagen (2014); two sisters, Viola Perez and Patricia Patterson; daughter in-law, Kristine Hagen; son in-law, Raul Chicas, granddaughter Kristina Chicas.

Visitation will be Monday, March 23rd from 10:30-11:00am at Terrazas Funeral Chapels. The funeral service will commence at 11am with Pastors Caleb Perez and Thomas Perez Jr. officiating. Concluding service interment will follow at Fort Bayard National Cemetery where she will be laid to rest by her husband. Pallbearers are Andrew Chicas, Jason Hernandez, Julio "Junior" Stegent, Andreis Chicas, Paul Burk, and Abraham Guerra. Honorary pallbearers are Jorge Hernandez, Louie Terrazas, and Gene Hagen.
