Cecilia "Ceci" Young of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on October 2, 2021 at Norton
Brownsboro Hospital at the age of 74. Ceci was diagnosed with cancer during the
summer and fought courageously through her treatments. She passed away due to
complications from her disease.
Her family would like to give a special thank you to her primary caregivers.
Born in New Haven, KY to parents, William and Cecilia Jury, Ceci grew up as one of
eight children. Growing up in New Haven, Ceci had instilled in her the values of hard
work, perseverance, and determination.
As Ceci graduated high school, she knew she wanted to continue her education, This
brought her to Louisville, KY, where she put herself through St. Joseph's Nursing
School.
After working diligently for several years, Ceci took a hiatus from nursing to raise her
two children. During this time, she spent a great deal of time investing in others as a
volleyball coach. Her players remember her as someone who instilled great confidence
and discipline. Later on, her passion for nursing was reinvigorated, and she returned to
Spalding University to attain her Bachelor's of Science in Nursing.
This brought her to caring for our most vulnerable, the elderly, through nursing home
care. Through years of hard work, Ceci rose in the ranks to nursing home administrator.
She found great joy as an administrator providing compassionate care to so many
people across many backgrounds.
Through her career as an administrator, she developed great friendships that stood the
test of time. One of Ceci's favorite things in the world was traveling to French Lick and
Belterra with her friends by her side.
Ceci will be cherished and remembered by her family and friends for her favorite things.
Her favorite drink was a cold Coors with her best friend, Julie. Her favorite meal was her
sister Pat's Christmas morning brunch, and her favorite dessert was her sister Mary
Ann's famous peanut brittle. Those who knew her well won't ever be able to visit PF
Chang's without ordering her favorite dish, Chang's Spicy Chicken. No future
celebration in her family will be complete without her famous orange cake or her bowl of
spiced gumdrops. Her grandchildren will affectionately remember her as "Snack Nana,"
as she had the great pleasure of going on many road trips with them and often bringing
an oversized bag of sugary treats for the car ride. Her favorite road trips included her
many Destin spring break trips and trips to her grandchildren's far away swim meets. On
her final road trip, she was able to drive up to South Bend with her grandson Ethan
before he began his freshman year at Notre Dame.
Ceci is survived by her two children, Beth Young Harned and Michael Young, and three
grandchildren, Ethan, Emerson, and Connor Harned. She is also survived by her five
sisters and their spouses, John and Pat Lococo, Melvin and Mary Ann Whelan, Andy
and Barbara Hall, Don and Margaret Weidner, and Madeline Newton, and her
sisters-in-law, Aggie Jury and Pat Jury.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her two brothers, Bobby, and Fred Jury, her
brother-in-law, Harold Newton, her former husband, Charles "Tom" Young, and her first
grandchild, Christian Donovan Harned.
In light of her daughter, Beth's, current battle with breast cancer, and Ceci's desire for
no one to be left out of any party she held, there will be a celebration of life luncheon in
her honor at a later date. Details will be announced on Facebook through her daughter,
Beth's, page or her grandson, Ethan's.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Ceci's honor to Inheritance of Hope, an
organization serving young families facing terminal illnesses. Ceci was deeply inspired
by their mission.
