Virginia Beach - With deep sorrow, the family of Celestyne Holloway Thornton announces her passing on September 11, 2025, at the age of 80 in Virginia Beach, VA. Born on September 4, 1945, in Norfolk, VA, Celestyne's life was a testament to her passions and dedication-a tapestry woven with love for teaching, music, and family.

Celestyne pursued a Master's Degree in Education from Norfolk State University, a reflection of her commitment to nurturing young minds. She began her career as a 3rd grade school teacher in Surry County, later bringing her warmth and enthusiasm to the classrooms of Ocean View Elementary. Her students remember her not only for the knowledge she imparted but also for her infectious smile and the joy she brought into their lives.

Beyond the classroom, Celestyne found joy in music and singing. Her love for people was evident in her laughter and her ability to light up any gathering. Known for her impeccable taste in shoes and her love of parties, she cherished every moment spent with family and friends.

Preceded in death by her parents, Waverly Holloway and Susie (Kinsey), Celestyne leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. She is survived by her devoted husband, Carter V. Thornton Sr.; her beloved daughter, Nicole Jones, and son-in-law Allen Jones; her dear son, Carter Thornton Jr.; and her adored grandchildren Ashanti Thornton, Mason Jones, and Karissa Thornton, along with great-grandchildren Noah Thornton and Nahla Harris. Her brother, Waverly Holloway Jr., and numerous family members and friends also mourn her passing.

A celebration of her life will be planned for a later date, where her spirit, vivacity, and the joy she brought to those around her will be remembered and celebrated.
