CG Evans, 89, passed away peacefully on February 22, 2026, in
Bellingham, Washington. He was born October 29, 1936, in
Abilene, Texas, to GW Evans and Aileen Wilbanks Evans and grew up in Big Spring, Texas as the oldest of three brothers. He graduated from Big Spring High School and spent his freshman year in the Corps at his beloved Texas A&M before returning home to begin his life and family. He was a lifelong Aggie fan.
CG married the love of his life, Joyce Nix, on June 16, 1957, in Luther, Texas. From the day they met, "Cig and Babe" were inseparable, sharing more than seven decades of life together grounded in love, faith, and family.
CG spent much of his career as the general manager of Newsom's grocery in Big Spring. He later moved to Carlsbad, New Mexico, where he served as general manager of Fenn Foods. CG was a hard worker and fair leader, but above all, a good and decent man. He earned the respect of those who worked for him by leading with kindness, encouragement, and quiet integrity. He had the most infectious laugh, gentle spirit, and was truly a friend to all.
CG had an adventurous spirit and loved travel, camping, and hiking. His fondest memories were the many summers spent camping in Ruidoso, New Mexico with his family, his brothers, and their families. For one last adventure, CG and Joyce moved to Washington state with their daughter Michelle and son Scott, continuing side by side as they always had. He spent his last year surrounded by mountains, trees, and flowers.
CG was a longtime active member of East Fourth Street Baptist Church and lastly, Christ Fellowship Church in Big Spring. Above all, he wanted to live his life in a way that honored his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He will be greatly missed by so many here on Earth but is now whole and complete in Heaven.
CG is survived by his beloved wife, Joyce Evans; his children, Steve Evans and his wife Sandra, Mike Evans and his wife Anna, Scott Evans, Sonya Raney, and Michelle Evans; his brother, Bob Evans and wife Peggy; his grandchildren, Jeremy, Eric, Bryce, Hutton, Ashton, Nick, Katherine, Chase, and Michaela; his great-grandchildren, Paisley, Kingston, Luke, Brooklyn, Summer, and Sophia; and numerous nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents; his grandson, Jordan Evans; his brother, Jim Evans and his wife, Carey; and his nephew, Clint Evans.
A memorial service will be held at a later date in Big Spring, Texas. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Runnels Academy at 102 E 10th St in Big Spring, Texas. Tributes may be shared at https://www.molesfarewelltributes.com/obituaries/cg-evans/#!/TributeWall.
