Chad Patrick Potvin, age 45, a resident of Dunstable, passed away unexpectedly at Lowell General Hospital on Thursday, November 27, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Rachel Ann Cerrone Potvin. Chad and Rachel spent a beautiful 22 years together, and recently celebrated their 12th wedding anniversary on October 4, 2025.
He was born in Lowell on April 23, 1980, and was the son of Frank E. and Maureen P. Potvin.
Chad grew up in Dracut MA, and developed a love for hockey, playing for the Middlesex Hawks Youth Organization, and then for Dracut High School. After graduating from Dracut High School in 1998, he worked as a landscaper but always aspired to own his own business. Potvin Landscaping Inc. would later become Potvin Excavation Inc. Chad built his business through his hard work, taking pride in his business and developing many friendships along the way.
Chad and Rachel settled in Dunstable MA, where they would build their life with their children. Chad used his craft and skill to help build their dream home together, from the ground up. Chad didn't step away entirely from his business but in 2024 went to work for NEUCO Inc.
His pride and joy were his children. He was a dedicated, loving and deeply involved father to Eve and Dominic. He took such an active role in their lives, introducing Dominic to hockey, taking him fishing, enjoying Eve's dance recitals, and being there for all the important moments in their lives.
Another favorite pastime was enjoying countless Boston Bruins hockey games, always attending the home opener game of the season with his dad. A forever beach bum, his second home was at Seabrook Beach, where he enjoyed many summers and made many wonderful memories there with his family and friends.
There are no words that can express how grateful and blessed we are to his dear neighbors, Dave and Jenn Greenwood. And a heartfelt thank you to the first responders for doing everything they could.
In addition to his loving wife, Chad is survived by his loving children, Eve and Dominic Potvin. His sister and brother-in-law, Erin and Brian Frechette of Pelham. His father and mother-in-law, Robert and Alice Cerrone of Westford. Chad's brother in-laws and their spouses, David and Katie Cerrone of Northborough, and Matthew and Theresa Cerrone of Northborough.
Chad's memory lives on with his nieces and nephews: Matthew, Meagan and Mason Frechette. Harley and Piper Cerrone and Brayden and Tyler Cerrone.
Chad is also survived by his close cousins and their spouses, Michael and Mary Foley of Dracut, Keith and Kelly Foley of Dracut, Garet and Christine Foley of Dracut and Courtney and Dan Peraza of Methuen. In addition, Chad is survived by his aunts and uncles, James Foley of Methuen, George and Paula Potvin of Windham, and Jenna McLain of Pepperell.
Chad is predeceased by his aunts, Dorothy Foley, Carol Foley and his uncle Peter Foley as well as his grandparents, Patrick J. and Eva B. Foley, and Adeline J. Potvin.
