Chance Karnes Obituary

Chance was born on May 13th, 2002, in Carbondale, Illinois, to Jason and Brandi Karnes. Chance graduated as a Herrin Tiger in 2020. He recently started apprenticing at the IUOE Local 318 operators' union.
Chance was a very hard worker and always enjoyed being outside. He was an avid competitor and his shared love for horses with his Papa Mike was immeasurable. Chance also had a special bond with his Gram & Pa, Bob and Pat Karnes, as well as his dad, Coach Jason Karnes on the football field.
Survivors include his parents, Jason & Brandi Karnes of Herrin, IL; his sister, Presli Karnes of Herrin, IL; five aunts and five uncles, Kandi Starkweather of Cave Creek, AZ, Dusty (Donald) Palmer of Pinckneyville IL, Ashley (Levi) Lanpher of St. Louis, MO, Lacy (Dillan) York of Pinckneyville, IL, Jeff Karnes of Rochester, MN, and Jarrod (Kari) Karnes of Marion, IL; his grandparents, Bob & Pat Karnes of Du Quoin, IL and Mike & Debra Mason of Swanwick, IL; numerous cousins, other relatives and friends; and especially his girlfriend Destiny Gillihan of Batesville, AR.
He was preceded in death by his grandpa, Bill Newton; great-grandmother, Mama Lois Leach; as well as a close cowboy friend, Dean Brown.
Services will be 1:00 p.m. Sunday, May 22, 2022 on the Herrin High School Football Field in Herrin. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park in Du Quoin, IL. Memorial donations may be made in Chance's memory to Herrin Education Foundation, 500 North 10th Street, Herrin, IL 62948; for the establishment of a vocational scholarship in his name.
