Dallas, NC Mrs. Charlene Morris McClure, 86, died Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at Gaston Memorial Hospital. Born in Gaston County, she was the daughter of the late Vincent Quincy Morris and Bell Bumgarner Morris. Mrs. McClure graduated from Stanley High School in 1938 and Appalachian State Teachers College in 1942. She was a teacher for 36 years and taught in Kannapolis, Lattimore, Wake Forest, Stanley, Dallas, and Gastonia. Until her recent illness, she was an active member of Flint Groves Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and was a longtime member of the choir. She was also a member of Delta Kappa Gamma National Honors Teaching Society. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, John H. McClure; 4 brothers and 2 sisters. Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Cynthia M. Lang and Larry L. Lang of Stanley, and Cheryl M. McDougal and Charles A. McDougal, Jr. of Raleigh; sister, Catherine Morris Clark-Good of Raleigh; grandchildren and spouses, Samantha L. Miller (John C. Miller), J. Christopher "Chris" Lang (Tiffany T. Lang), Alan V. McDougal (Jennifer W. McDougal), and Erin D. McDougal; 4 great-granddaughters. The funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, December 27, 2009 at Flint Groves Baptist Church with the Rev. Ronnie Bowers officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1:30 PM until 3:00 PM Sunday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Flint Groves Baptist Church Building Fund, 2023 Flint Lane, Gastonia, NC 28054.
