Charles Adams, 88, of New Philadelphia, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, January 21, 2024 in Community Hospice Truman House at New Philadelphia following a period of declining health.
A son of the late Raymond Franklin Adams and Myrtle Marie (Rich) Adams, Charles was born October 16, 1935 at Tuscola, Illinois.
Charles earned his pilot’s license at Beach City airport. Flying became a passion for him and as a result he enlisted in the United States Air Force. On December 13, 1958, he married the former Melverna Winkhart. Together they enjoyed 66 years of marriage.
Charles worked his way up in the Oil industry. He retired from Ashland Oil after 25 years of service as supervisor. After retirement they would call him as a consultant during major turnaround times. After retirement, Charles and Melverna purchased a boat and spent a great deal of time on Lake Erie fishing. He was also a proud Lifetime member of the NRA.
But Charles greatest joy on earth was his family. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He always enjoyed the time that he spent with his grandchildren. Everyone who knew Charles knew that he was a man of few words, however, when he spoke everyone knew to listen.
Charles is survived by his wife, Melverna; children, Charles Adams, Jr. of New Philadelphia, Robin (John) Weber of Dover, and Mareta (Tim) Albrecht of New Philadelphia; grandchildren, Bow Shane Adams, Erica (fiancé, Doug Ash) Burrier, Taneka (Robert) Butler, Patrick Weber, Shalisa (Carter) Page, Joliena Albrecht, and Zachary Weber; great-grandchildren, Brooklyn Pearl Adams, Lincoln Butler, Cason Butler, and Charlotte Page; sisters, Anita Rae Marotta, and Doris Jane Fowler; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, and sisters, Mary Rose Greer, and Ellen Lynn Adams.
The family will greet friends on Saturday, January 27, 2024 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at Calvary Baptist Church 1507 Oldtown Valley Rd SE, New Philadelphia, Ohio. A Celebration of Life will be led by Pastor Don Snow in the church at 4:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers the family ask that memorial contributions be made in Charles’ name to Community Hospice, 716 Commercial Ave. SW, New Philadelphia, OH 44663 or Calvary Baptist Church, 1507 Oldtown Valley Rd SE, New Philadelphia, OH 44663.
