charles Allen Obituary
Mr. Allen was born July 22, 1933, in New Albany, MS to the late Howard B. and Lilly Sturgeon Allen. He was raised in Missouri and received his Bachelors degree from the University of Nebraska.
He served our country in the US Army for 21 years, retiring in 1971, as E-8, First Sergeant. He was in the Special Forces and spent two tours in Vietnam.
Following his military career, he worked in claims with State Farm Insurance for 24 years, retiring as WNC region supervisor.
He is survived by his wife, Katharine Preston Massengill Allen; daughters, Deborah Gerdes (Bob) and Linda Morris; step-daughter, Christine Medford (Mark); grandchildren, Jessica Barker, Jacob Medford, Allison Morris, Spencer Morris and Courtney Moser, and a brother, Bob Allen (Sandy).
Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 29, 2022, at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue.

pop pop always had the biggest smile on his face whenever we would come see him. he was the sweetest person ever and we loved him very much. his wife said the he told her that "Maya and Leigh always hung the moon", that made me smile. I'm going to miss talking to him and baking him gingerbread cookies for christmas, and getting candy from him on halloween.
