Charles Richard Averitt, 87, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 23, 2023 at the Hospice Home surrounded by his family. He was born on December 4, 1935 in Durham County to the late Kenneth Howard Averitt and Lucy Forester Averitt Harris, and was the husband of 50 years to the late Hilda Madden Averitt who passed away in 2021.
Charles retired after 40 plus years with Liggett & Myers in Durham. He was a member of Union Ridge Church, he enjoyed working with horses, working in his yard and spending time with his family.
Charles is survived by his daughters, Deborah Buckner and Janice Allison; grandchildren, Lenne Brown and husband Robbie, and Kyle Buckner; step great grandchildren, Grant Brown and Emillie Brown. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and his siblings, Juanita, Jeanette, Wyatt and Marvin Averitt.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00pm Sunday, November 26, 2023 at Union Ridge Church by Pastor Dan Ficklin. The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship building.
