Charles Barnett, age 77, of Austin passed away on Saturday, December 22, 2012. He was an Army Veteran of the Korean War and then a professional organist at 1st United Methodist Church for over 40 years, Temple Beth Israel over 50 years, and most recently University Baptist Church. Charles, a graduate of the University of Texas, had a curious intellect and a tenacious spirit. The eternal student, with over 300 hours study at the university, he was devoted to his interests which ranged from music and mathematics to chemistry, several languages including Latin, Greek, Hebrew, French and Spanish, plus art history and a wide range of all the arts. He was an accomplished musician, composer and performer. He also loved to cook and to travel with a well-worn pathway to Paris. Charles is survived by his lifelong partner, friend and traveling companion Carole Stromberg of Austin, Texas; brothers, Bobby Barnett of Cincinnati, Ohio, Larry Barnett of Kyle, Texas; three nephews and nieces; two great-nephews. Visitation will be held from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm on Thursday, December 27, 2012 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 2620 South Congress Avenue. Graveside Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, December 28, 2012 at Capital Parks Cemetery, Pflugerville, Texas. There will also be a memorial service in January honoring Charles with special performances by friends and musicians, to be announced at a later date.
