Charles Batte Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sunset Memorial Funeral Home & Crematory - Brownsville on Feb. 24, 2026.
Charles Robert "Bobby" Batte, 85, went to be with the Lord on February 19, 2026, one-week shy of his 86th birthday. Born in Denton, Texas, Bobby entered a world shaped by resilience and faith - values that would guide his life and the legacy he leaves behind.

He was born to Ray Hubert Batte and Eddie Mae (Hoover) Batte, who preceded him in death along with his brother Martin Batte and sister Ebbie Rhea "Tip" Batte.

Bobby proudly served his country after joining the United States Navy in 1957, serving six years and being stationed in Pensacola, Florida. Following his military service, he moved to Tennessee and began a long and successful career in the textile industry. His work took him across many states and around the world, a journey he embraced with curiosity, dedication, and a strong work ethic.

Throughout his life, Bobby was a man of energy and adventure. He was an avid runner and enjoyed scuba diving, fishing, gardening, and most of all spending time with his family. Bobby was quite the character - known by all as light-hearted, entertaining, and someone who could bring laughter into any room.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Maria Enriqueta (Leal) Batte, whom he valued deeply and with whom he shared a life centered on family, faith, and perseverance. He was a devoted father to Michael Hands, Tiffany Batte, Mark Batte, and Jerry Peña. He was a proud grandfather to Joshua Hansen, Jordan Hansen, Taylor (Batte) Plattor, Hunter Batte, Landon Batte, Aaron Hands, Shaun Hands, and Callie Hands. Bobby was also blessed to be a great-grandfather to Rhylan Hansen, Sawyer Hansen, Hannah Hansen, Knox Hansen, Kase Plattor, Blake Plattor, Tanner Plattor, Carson Batte, Magnus Hands, Finn Helms, Autumn Helms, Cameron Johnson, and Cooper Johnson.

He is also lovingly remembered by his nephews Joe Teague, Tommy Teague, Vicki Teague, Bryan Batte, and Martin Batte, Sister-in-law Angela Batte, along with many extended family members and friends whose lives he touched.

Bobby believed deeply that Jesus was his Savior and took comfort in the divine mercy of God. He felt blessed by the people who loved him throughout his life and held a deep appreciation for grace, forgiveness, and the promise of peace at the end of life. Above all, he valued his wife and family, who were the center of his world.

Bobby will be remembered for his laughter, his stories, his adventurous spirit, and the love he held for his family. His legacy lives on in the generations that follow and in the countless memories shared by those who knew him.

"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." – 2 Timothy 4:7
