Charles Wayne Beneke was the last of 7 children born to Luther H. and Helen G. Beneke. Born in San Antonio, Texas on October 22, 1953, his faith foundation was Roman Catholic. We believe he is safely in the gracious arms of his Savior, Jesus, departing this life on August 28, 2024. Cremation was August 30, 2024 at Miller Funeral and Cremation Services.
Charles had a variety of jobs starting at the age of six as a paperboy. Later, he worked as a shelf stocker with HEB. In his mid 20s, he moved to Houston deciding to begin a career in new homes sales with U.S. Homes. This is where he met his future wife, January 2, 1980. After several months of opening a new subdivision, they decided to venture out, starting a new company of their own. This partnership began with Universal Homes in September 1980. Another business followed the housing market crash, Fun Stop convenience store.
By this time, a small marriage ceremony had happened. Charles came into this union being a stepfather to Leslie. Three children were born to this union, Krystine, Charlie and Angelica. Charles became a stay at home Dad, working in finance, trying his hand at writing, running and growing spiritually.
Once the children were finished with high school and all went East to college, Charles became more involved with his parish and his running. He joined the Legion of Mary in October 2019. He often commented how gracious and kind the members are. This group truly helped him on his faith journey.
In January 2021, Charles fell down the stairs of our home. He fractured his collarbone and while in the hospital tests revealed several other issues, not the least of which was skin cancer (squamous cell). He did well in the hospital but once home, refused treatment and further doctor visits for nearly a year. He finally began seeing the myriad of physicians needed a year later. When dementia was diagnosed, Charles was placed in Assisted Living. He wanted to come home.
Easter 2024, Markettea brought Charles Home. In June, he was placed in Home Hospice and Palliative Care. He passed away peacefully at home.
The family extends a heartfelt feeling of gratitude to all for their expressions of sympathy. All cards, texts, social media posts, personal visits, telephone calls and food are appreciated. We do have to give a special thank you to Richard (Rick) Candea. Rick was a constant in Charles' life. Not only did he bring Communion weekly but during treatments, he met him for each doctor visit sometimes daily. Rick exemplified Christ to Charles. We are forever grateful.
