Charles Black Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by W. L. Wilson & Sons Funeral Home - Ft. Oglethorpe Chapel on Feb. 26, 2026.
Charles "Charlie" Erwin Black, age 76, passed away on Thursday, February 26, 2026. A native of Hamilton County, Charlie was a devoted member of Christway Church and a 1967 graduate of Red Bank High School. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy, a chapter of his life he carried with honor and quiet pride. He also retired from the Watts Bar Plant of TVA, as a machinist after 30 plus years of employment.

Charlie was an avid outdoorsman who found great joy in hunting and fishing. He especially enjoyed tying his own flies and spending peaceful hours on the water. A skilled woodworker, he took pride in creating things with his hands. He also treasured the years he spent coaching his children in their younger days, investing time, patience, and steady guidance into their lives. His greatest joy, however, was his family. He deeply loved and cared for his grandchildren and found special happiness in the simple moments, even something as ordinary as cleaning the pool became a treasured memory when it was done alongside them. Charlie was a man of few words, but behind his quiet nature was a tender heart and an abundance of love for his family and friends. Charlie's life was marked by faith, service, craftsmanship, and steadfast love. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Janice "Jan" Black; his parents, Chester and Katherine "Crawley" Black; and his grandson, Dakota Taylor.

Charlie is survived by his loving wife, Brenda "Langston" Black; children; April (Gene) Taylor, son and best friend, John (Amy) Black, Kris (Brian) Bales, Kelley Lawson; brother, Chester (Marcia) Black; grandchildren, Abbie Black, Danielle Molathati, Brianna Lenain, Josh Bales, Megan Bales, Jadis Lawson and Brendilyn Rochelle, several great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends for visitation from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM on Sunday, March 1, 2026, in the parlor of the funeral home and from 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM on Monday prior to the service. A memorial service will be held Monday, March 2, 2026 at 2:00 PM in the Ft. Oglethorpe Chapel of Wilson Funeral Home with, his nephew, Minister Jim Black officiating. Interment will be on Wednesday at 1:00 PM, March 4, 2026, in the Chattanooga National Cemetery. US Navy will render military honors.
