Charles "Friday" Blackwood Sr. Died Sept. 23, 2025 at the age of 89. After a long battle with a failing heart, we find comfort in knowing he is now with his Heavenly Father in Heaven. He was born into a poor but loving family. As a child he worked and rode on a vegetable food wagon delivering food to houses and caring for the horses. As he got older, he worked at many jobs during his lifetime. Having an entrepreneur's heart, he was always looking to find a way to make things work and grow. He went to work during his teen years at a HG Hills grocery store stocking food, then working a JP Brown Drug Co. This is where he got the nickname "Friday". He owned a Sinclair Service Station, he was elected and served as a Nashville Davidson County Constable, he owned B&B Auto Body Shop, he was a Davidson Co. Sheriff's Dept. Process Server, a Deputy Sheriff Jail Guard and later became a Jail Superintendent over what was called "Blackwood's Jail" under Sheriff Fate Thomas. He had a dream from an early age of owning property and since he could build and fix almost anything, it enabled him to buy rundown property early in life, fixing them up to live in and rent. In so doing he taught his two sons how to work on houses and also provide for their families. In later years, he and his loving and supportive wife of 46 years Sheridith "Sheri" Blackwood) continued to buy and renovate a number of residential and commercial properties all in East Nashville. Along with his wife and his constant companion Mocha, he is survived by his loving children: Charles Jr (Ruth Ann) and Carl Victor (Sandra) He and Sheri cared deeply for their family sharing what they had selflessly and generously. He is survived by his loving children: Charles Jr (Ruth Ann) Blackwood and Carl Victor (Sandra) Blackwood and grandchildren Andrea, Derek , Charles III (Katrina) and Christy Blackwood, with 5 great grandchildren Harper, Jackson, Knox Henry, Levi and Annabeth. He was preceded in death by his daughter Janice E. Nolen, his parents, his brothers Ed Cunningham and Elbert Blackwood ,his sisters Lorene Hendricks and Sarah Courtney. During his time as a landlord and during his time as a heart patient, he was assisted, aided and lovingly cared for by two very special people, Polly Owens and Tracey Walker. He wished only to die "on the job" and tried very hard until the very end. He lived a very minimalistic life and was known as a problem solver, caring for many that were down in their lives and helping others deal with their problems. His wishes were to be cremated and to have no funeral service, wanting everyone to just remember him as they knew him. Sheri and the family want to thank all who have been a part of his life making it so special. There will be a special celebration on November 23, 2025, which would have been his 90th Birthday, giving the people who came to know and love the guy they called "Friday", an opportunity to celebrate his life as they knew him.

Sheri, I just read your message, and I'm so saddened to hear of Friday's death. I know much of what you are going through, as I lost my husband, in 2015. Most people, today, will not know how devastating it is to lose one's life partner. You had 46 years and Larry and I had 43. The years are passing but my grief is still strong, as yours will be. Thinking of you and hoping that you'll find some comfort in your many wonderful memories, and in knowing that friends care. Love, Diane
