We celebrate the life of Chic Bowen, 73, who passed away on September 19, 2024 after a courageous battle with cancer. Chic was born in Akron, Ohio to Charles and Grace Bowen and graduated from East High School. He started his local trucking career with Betsy Ross and retired from A. Duie Pyle earlier this year, making lifelong friendships along the way. Most notably, “The Four Horsemen,” Danny, Guy and Broph, who have spent the last 45 years riding through life together.
Chic loved cooking, canning peppers and rooting for Ohio State (OH….IO) and the Browns. Known as the “Master of Cleaning and Polishing,” Chic took tremendous pride in keeping his vehicles clean. He always had the right product for the job, and his vehicles were always sparkling. His garage was perfectly organized and the floor always clean enough to eat off.
Chic infected everyone with his contagious laugh and fun-loving spirit. His exceptional dance moves were so fun to watch making us want to get up and join him. Let’s dance though our days with a smile on our face thinking of him.
Preceded in death by his parents, Chic is survived by his brother, Butch (Rose Kegg) Bowen; step-sisters, Rhonda (Dale) Starcher and Robyn (Jose) Perez; child, Becky (Matt) Johnson; grandchildren, Caitlinn, Josilyn and Jordan; nephews, David Bowen, Lucas Bowen; and niece, Jennifer(Dave) Johnson.
Special thanks to his Earth Angels, Guy and Judy, who provided compassionate and unwavering support in his final journey. Also, thanks to special friends who talked about Jesus and the glory of Heaven so Chic would decide to accept Jesus as his Lord and Savior. He was a good man and now we know he has earned his wings. I hope all reading this will find happiness in knowing he has met Jesus.
Friends and family are welcome to visit on Thursday September 26, 2024 from 4:30 until 6:30pm with a brief service to begin at 6:15pm at Newcomer, 131 N. Canton Rd, Akron.
The celebration of Chic’s life will continue after the service at the Iron Grill, 2215 Waterloo Road, Akron, 44312. Friends and family are welcome to join us for a beer and snacks to toast to a life well lived!
We all love flowers but they soon wither away. Instead, Chic would love a donation to help rescue animals made to: Lakemore Dogs Homeward Bound 2214 Canton Rd. Akron, OH 44312.
