Charles Bowles Obituary

Charles L.("Chuck"/ "Charlie") Bowles, 87 of Evans, left this life for his heavenly home on March 11, 2024 at his home on the farm he loved from injuries received in a farming accident.

He was born June 6, 1936 in Given, son of the late Lon Bowles and Bonny Smith-Parsons. Chuck proudly served his country in the United States Army and was stationed in Korea during his time of service. He retired from Kaiser Aluminum where he worked for 30 years supporting his family. He was a member of the Calvary United Methodist Church in Ripley. Chuck was known for his talents of singing and playing Guitar and singing. He used these talents as his testimony of his love in serving the Lord. He sang with the Builders Quartet for over 40 years as well with other groups and solo. He could also be found at a Bluegrass Festival or with a group of friends playing and singing. He made many friends and touched many lives through his music. He also enjoyed on his farm and was a car enthusiast. During his retirement, he continued his love for cars by transferring vehicles to various dealerships, and enjoying his travels through the countryside for I-77 Ford Auto Group.

He is survived by his sons, Adam (Candie) and Jim; grandchildren, Ryan (Leah), Courtney (Derek) and Meghan; great-grandson, Roman, who was the apple of his eye; nieces Diane Skidmore, Bonnie Skidmore (Tom) Menighan who he loved like a daughter; and great nephew Alex Earl.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years, Kitty Sayre Bowles; several brothers and sisters. One sister in particular, Brida Skidmore, played an important part in his life as he lived with her and her husband Otis following the death of his parents.

Chuck loved to farm and was proud to see Ryan take that same love. He looked forward to Monday morning coffee and donuts with Courtney where they would often talk about her travels and time with Meghan and Roman where endless hours of exploring the farm on his side by side brought him great joy. His words of wisdom, love, encouragement and endless willingness to help others will be missed by his family.

His wishes for a private graveside service will be held at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Given, WV where military Rites will be provided by the Jackson County Honor Guard.
