Charles Breakstone Obituary

Breakstone - Charles Gene "Charlie", "Primo", "Gene", "Breaker", "Precious", "CB", "Pops", passed away on January 24, 2023, at the age of 84. He is survived by his wonderful wife, Mary Meyers; his sister, June Breakstone, and her wife, Ro Eakin; his children and their spouses, Joe (Janine), Laura (Bobby), and Willie (Melissa); his grandchildren, Lauren (Alex), Joe (Jess), Zachary, Jake, Robert (Tori), Rebecca, Molly, and Liam; and his great-grandson, James. Charlie graduated from Freeport High School in 1956 after which he attended Hofstra University. After serving in the 82nd Airborne Division, Charlie began his Wall Street career at Ira Haupt (1962). A year later, Charlie moved to Bache & Company (later to become Prudential Securities), retiring in 1998 as a senior vice president of the Municipal Bond Department. Upon retirement, Breaker became a consummate world traveller visiting five continents and over seventy countries, many of them more than once. Closer to home, Primo covered all fifty states as well. Breaker was a sports enthusiast. He was at old Polo Grounds for his first NY Giants game, NY Giants vs. Philadelphia Eagles (1948). He was there for opening day at Yankee Stadium: NY Yankees vs. Washington Senators (1949). In 1962 Charlie became a NY Mets fan and was excited to attend one of the Mets' five World Series games. He attended the NY Knicks games in their championship season. And he supported the New York Islanders as a proud season box owner from their first game through their four championship seasons.

Sincere condolences to all the family and to Mary on the sad death of Charlie. Charlie was kind of a legend since days at Freeport HS, and he kept a group together by always planning luncheons and a Christmas gathering in Freeport on the "Mile." He was instrumental in planning reunions which turned out wonderfully. He loved his Freeport, his HS days, friends, and joy and love on the football field with Coach Ashley. Charlie will always be remembered, for he was the "glue" that kept an ongoing group to gather, reminisce, and really enjoy those chats and laughs about the old days. Charlie could remember a HS football game, the plays, and who tackled whom!!!
We shall not forget such a loyal Freeporter, and he will sadly be missed. I first met Charlie in the fall of 1954, when he sat behind me in Public Speaking with Mr. Burnett. Me....13, a 9th. grader, Charlie 16, a Junior. I was in awe of him, and he seemed larger than life. Then.......68 years later, his life ends. So.......a hearty hail to Premo Charlie, the good friend of so many over the years. You shall be missed and forever cherished as you live in our hearts and memories.
