Charles Briar Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Memorial Services of Iowa at Ankeny Memorial (MSI) on Sep. 21, 2024.
Charles W. Briar, 93, of Ankeny, Iowa, passed away peacefully on September 14, 2024. Born May 17, 1931, he was the son of the late Jack and Josephine (Anderson) Briar.
Charles grew up on a farm in Prole, Iowa with his siblings Josephine (d.2022), Jim (d.2020), Nancy (d.1929), and Helen (d.2017). He was united in marriage to Rose Marie (d.2013) in 1950,and together had three children Michael, Craig (d.2023), and Dianna (d.2024). He later married Barbara (Jackson) Briar, in 1993, with whom they have celebrated 40 years of marriage.
Charles graduated from Des Moines East High School in the class of 1949 and was a proud member of the EHS Alumni Association. He went on to serve his country honorably as an active military member in the Korean Conflict. His dedication and service were a testament to his character and commitment to his nation. After his discharge, Charles went on to work for Wallace Homestead as a Printer, and later a salesman for the same company. He ended his professional career with Bankers Trust as the Supervisor of the Supply Department, retiring in 1993.
Charles spent his retirement enjoying time with his family, and many vacations. He had a zest for life and a variety of interests. Charles loved being on the water, whether it was boating or simply enjoying the tranquility it offered. He was ready to dance at any moment, and loved taking on many projects around the house. His passion for trains was evident in his extensive knowledge and enthusiasm for learning and talking about them. Charles' legacy is one of love, dedication, and a life well-lived. He will be deeply missed.
Charles is survived by his wife Barbara Briar, son Michael Briar, step-children Steven (Kris) Weinheimer, Pamela (Dave Neff) Johnson; 12 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his daughter, Dianna Blixt, son Craig Briar, sister Josephine (Briar) Hunt, brother Jim Briar, sister Helen (Briar) Cameron Findling, as well as several grandparents, family members and close friends.
Per Charles' wishes, there will be no funeral services, but a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
