Charles Brown Obituary

Charles Marlin "Chuck" Brown, 79, passed away on Friday, October 17, 2025, at his home in Starkville, Mississippi, surrounded by his loving family. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Sunday, October 19 in the Massey Funeral Home Chapel with Jim Tidwell and Bro. Ron Linkins officiating. Visitation will be the day of the service at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until service time. Interment will immediately follow the service in Craig Springs Cemetery in Oktibbeha County.

Born on July 13, 1946, in Reedsville, West Virginia, to Charles L. Brown and Martha Switzer Brown, he later moved with his family to the Mississippi delta, and eventually settled in Sturgis, Mississippi. Chuck was a member of Longview Baptist Church. He began his engineering career at Sturgis Lumber Company, later working for Gulf States and Taylor Machine Works before eventually retiring from Weavexx, formerly known as Lockport Felt. Chuck holds four patents with Lockport Felt and set the world record for installing the Texo Loom. In his honor, a machine at Lockport Felt was named "The Brown Machine." He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. Chuck answered the call of his country by serving in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War.

Chuck is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Betty Odom Brown of Starkville; his son, Vance (Mitzi) Brown; and his daughter, Melissa (Jim) Tidwell. One of his greatest joys was being "PawPaw" to his four grandchildren: Brianna (Dalton) Jackson, Will Shackelford, Braxton (Raegan) Brown, and Kaelan Brown; as well as his three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Peggy Livingston; and two brothers, Mitchell Brown and Barry (Debbie) Brown; in addition to a host of loving nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Serving as pallbearers are Vance Brown, Braxton Brown, Will Shackelford, Justin Livingston, Sterling Lewis, and Darrell Files. Memorials in honor of Chuck may be given to Longview Baptist Church.

Services are under the direction of Massey Funeral Home, 724 North Columbus Avenue, Louisville, MS. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family by signing the guest register at www.masseyfuneralhome.net.
