Charles Wayne "Chuck" Oswald, age 85, of Decatur, IL, originally of Elkhart, KS, passed away on Monday, June 30, 2025, at his home. Chuck was born on June 14, 1940, in Elkhart, KS to Raymond C. and Mabel Irene (Sloan) Oswald.

He was raised on a farm 7 1/2 miles south of Elkhart during the Filthy Fifties when farming was a demanding and thankless profession. He graduated with a class of 14 from Yarbrough High School, Eva, OK in 1958. Chuck earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Oklahoma State University and was an Army veteran, where he served in Vietnam as a jeep mechanic. He proudly worked for Caterpillar Tractor Company as a Design Engineer for over 30 years and created many truck parts that were patented. Chuck was a member of Northwest Christian Church for over 25 years and served happily on the property and building committee for many of those years.

He is survived by his daughter M. Diane (John) Engle of Eureka, MO and son Steven W. (Amy) Oswald of Colleyville, TX; his beloved grandchildren John D. Engle of Beavercreek, OH, Andrew J. Oswald of Colleyville, TX, Abigail M. Oswald of Miami, FL, Cassandra D. Engle of Lincoln, NE, and Ethan W. Oswald of Colleyville, TX; and sister M. Ann (Chalmer) Brown of Cheyenne, OK.

Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, fiancée Marilyn Shull, brother James "Jim" Oswald and former wife and mother of his children, Patricia J. Oswald.

Graveside service will be held Saturday, July 26, 2025, at 1:00 PM at the Elkhart Cemetery in Elkhart, KS with Reverend Jim Cunningham officiating. Military rites will be provided by Southwest Kansas Veterans Funeral Honor Guard. A Celebration of Life will be at 2:00 PM on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at Northwest Christian Church, 1306 N. Stanley Ave., Decatur, IL.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions be made to Northwest Christian Church, Attn: Property Fund, 1306 Stanley Ave, Decatur, IL 62526. Local arrangements are in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 514 Kansas St., Elkhart, KS 67950. Condolences may be posted at www.garnandfuneralhomes.com.
