Jim Miller Obituary

Jim Miller

Apr 24, 1951 - Sep 8, 2025

James "Jim" Miller, age 74, passed away September 8, 2025 in Creede, Colo., one of his favorite places on earth. Jim, ("Jimmy" or "Jimbo") was born in Tulsa, Okla. on April 24, 1951. He was a proud 1969 graduate of Tulsa's Daniel Webster High School and later graduated with a degree in business from Oklahoma State University in 1976. He was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity where he met many of those who would turn out to be his closest friends. Throughout his lifetime he remained a life-long Cowboy and avid supporter of OSU.

After college Jim found golf and developed a great love for the game. Over the years he and his wife Claudia played together often and enjoyed playing in couples events as they traveled around the country. Jim also was a founding member of the "Boys Golf Trip", a springtime golf outing that Jim looked forward to every year for over 45 years, when he could meet his buddies at various venues throughout the country to play golf and enjoy everyone's friendship. Following college, Jim worked in the apparel business as a manufacturer's rep for 17 years. He later transitioned to the mortgage banking business in 1990, and in 1998 he co-founded American Southwest Mortgage Corp. where he served as Executive Vice President and Chief Production Officer until his retirement in 2014. During that time, he also co-founded American Southwest Mortgage Funding Corp. where he served as its president, and together under Jim's direction his companies would become one of Oklahoma's largest mortgage bankers. He served the industry in a number of ways, including a term as President of the Oklahoma Mortgage Bankers Association and a number of years serving on the Association's Board of Directors.

Jim was known for his infectious positivity and no matter what challenges he faced his glass was always half full. He greeted everyone with a great handshake, a genuine smile, and he was careful to treat everyone he met with respect. His outgoing nature and remarkable ability to connect with others earned him a wide circle of friends throughout the country.

Jim and Claudia married in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico on September 15, 1997. They were together 34 happy years. Jim and Claudia, lived on Grand Lake for many years before becoming full-time motorhome travelers. Together they traveled all over the US before settling in Naples, Fla. during winter months and Creede, Colo. during the summer months.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Claudia Miller; brothers, David Miller (wife Marilyn) and Greg Miller (wife Jana); sisters-in-law Maureen Miller, Nancy Inglett and Eve Sloan. Jim particularly enjoyed a special bond with his numerous nieces; nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews. Jim loved all of his family deeply and they loved him right back. He will most certainly be missed by all of his family and friends.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Milburn and Lawanda Miller and older brother Larry Miller. The Celebration of Life Service will be at 1 p.m., Wednesday, October 22, at Asbury Church, 6767 S. Mingo Road, Tulsa, Okla. In lieu of flowers the family asks that you make a donation to St Jude's at stjude.org
