Charlie was born November 12, 1941 in Alexandria, Louisiana to Don and Mary Churchman. Charlie, the oldest of three children, grew up in Colfax, Louisiana alongside his brother, Dave and sister, Ludie. Charlie graduated from Colfax High School, and then attended and graduated from the University of Southwestern Louisiana. Soon after college, Charlie met Patricia Burford, in Paradis, Louisiana, where they both worked. The couple married in July of 1967. Charlie worked as a farmer in Derry, Louisiana, where he and Patsy raised their two sons and were faithful members of Flora Methodist Church. The couple retired to Natchitoches, where they rocked on their porch and watched their grandchildren grow till Patsy‘s death in 2021. In recent years, Charlie enjoyed breakfast with friends, Maid Mondays, drives to Derry, and visits with his grandkids.
Charlie is preceded in death by his loving wife of 54 years, Patsy; his parents, Don Kyern and Mary Ethridge Churchman; brother and sister-in-law, Dave Kyern and Sheila Achord Churchman; and nephew, Don Kyern Churchman.
Those left to cherish his memory are two sons, Ryder (Hope), Patrick (Amelia); grandchildren, Brittainey and son, Declan, Haden, Cameron, Luke, Gabriel, and Mary Hannah; sister Ludie (Pam Bryant); niece Kimberly Davis (Stephen); and special friend and companion, Cecilia Smith. Those honored to be pallbearers will be Haden Churchman, Cameron Churchman, Luke Churchman, Gabriel Churchman, Eddie Gatlin, and Jay (Jaybird) Bankston.
