Charles Collins Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by McGregor Funeral Home and Cremation Service, McGregor on Dec. 5, 2025.
Charles Roger Collins, 83, of McGregor, passed away Thursday, December 4, 2025 at his home. He was born on August 15th, 1942 in Chariton, IA to Raymond and Ursal (Morford) Collins. He proudly told anyone that would listen that he was a farm boy from Iowa.

Roger graduated from Russell High School in 1957. After graduation he went to work with Burlington Railroad Company. Right before he met the love of his life he went on an epic adventure across Germany with his brother Ron and sister-in-law Sandi. Apparently, there's a bakery there that might never quite be the same.

On January 9th, 1971 Roger asked Gail to dance. She was the last girl he ever asked to dance, according to him "he saved the best for last". After a whirlwind romance they got married on March 20, 1971. Yes - 2 1/2 months later! Not only did he marry Gail but he got Denise and Darrel Ray in the deal too. He instantly adopted them and they began their life together. They spared no time adding to their family. Erin and Todd completed the package. Roger, Gail and the family lived in River Falls until he went to work with Spectro Alloys and they moved to Vermillion. He stayed at Spectro working as a maintenance technician until his retirement in 2007.

Sadly the family lost part of their hearts when Erin was taken in a car accident on January 15, 1995.

In 2018 they moved to McGregor to be closer to family and fishing. The family fish fries at their home were second to none.

Roger loved his family more than anything. He loved being outdoors. Some of his favorite activities included fishing, gardening, mowing and burning anything that didn't move. His love of food was like none other. When planning a family event, you better know what you were going to serve him cause he would keep asking until you knew! His sense of humor, especially the inappropriate jokes, will be missed by all.

Charles is preceded in death by his son, Erin; his parents, Raymond and Ursal; his in-laws, Galen and Missie and his sister-in-law, Sandi.

Charles is survived by his devoted wife, Gail; children, Darrel Ray & Melanie, Denise & Randy and Todd & Shelly; grandchildren, Sarah, Austin, Riley & Jordan, Levi, Keely, Carter & Harmony, Hank, Sydney and Carley; great grandchildren, Jackson, Porter and soon to be born, Rowan Ryan Roger Collins; his brother, Ron; sister-in-law, Allison & Phil and many nieces and nephews.

Roger went to reunite with those gone before him and to meet the Lord on December 4th, 2025.
